Anyone not get paid?

Specialties Agency

This is the scenario:

Weekly pay for the previous week, payday on Friday. Checks come in the mail. No check by Monday. Call in, payroll says didn't make the cut for the week, will be on the next check or can have an advance. No want advance. Day not paid for was at the beginning of the pay period not the end.

Call back, ask scheduler what's the story? Scheduler said what did the payroll person say and then, did you submit your time slip. Time slip was submitted same day worked.

Finally get to speak with owner. Mention didn't make the cut, no response to that. Ask why not paid on time, answer "I don't know". Says both that day and the next weeks day scheduled to have payroll taxes taken out this week. Ask if will be paid for both days this payday, "yes". Offered same day pay, no want same day pay. Offered to cut both checks and deposit in account if account number given, no want that either.

Said wanted to work this week but hesitant to work since didn't get paid for that day. Response was "when do you want to work", no availability given.

Do want to work but want to get paid.

Wondering if should take chance and work this week or wait until after payday?

Could be a simple mistake on payroll persons part, but am wondering if something else is going on?

Anyone have a take on this?

Until you get apid, do not work anymore for them.......................especially if they say that you had your time slip in on time..............

I guess it depends on your relationship with this agency. Are you brand new to each other? Any word from other nurses about payroll issues? Are you willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that this was a single honest mixup?

Have worked for them for awhile. Haven't had this happen before.

Don't know anyone who works for them on a personal basis, just see people occasionally at work, so can't ask anyone else.

One thing I keep thinking about is the remark about not making the cut for the week. What does that mean? They decide who is going to get paid this week and who isn't?

I'm wondering if they are having financial difficulties.

Not working again until after I get paid sounds good on one hand, I don't want to have 3 days not paid for.

Though it is possible that it was just a mixup.

Thank you both for the reply.

Are you required to have your timeslip by a certain time and not just day? This can happen...............if you do not have your check by the next payday, do not work for them................

The day in question was at the beginning of the week and they had the timeslip that same day. It was something they did or didn't do.

If you had your slip in to them on time, it is their responsibility to pay you on time. I definitely wouldn't work for them until I was paid. Luckily, I have never had to deal with this, but there are too many agencies out there that function this way...........if they can't cut you a check this week, I would look for another company...........If they go out of business, you are stuck and with only minimal chance of getting paid.......... :o

Thanks. I've decided that's what I'll do, wait until after this Friday (payday) to see if I get paid for the two days they owe me before I work again.

I worked for a HUGE hospital in Tennessee and twice I did not get a paycheck ( on q 2 wk payperiods) The 2nd time it happened, I looked at the charge nurse with tears welling up in my eyes and told her ........."If I don't get my check tomorrow, I won't step foot in this ER again".

the very next day........i had my check in my hands after a few phone calls...... to my manager, payroll, and nursing administrator.

I'm sooooooooooooooooooo sorry this happened to you, and I KNOW that it completely and totally sucks.
