Hi
I have a few years nursing experience, RN, 43yrs old, Brit nurse, love urology, and am considering a move to Australia - just looking into where etc.
Anyway my question is do you think that i would be better going through an agency or going it alone? Is one a lot quicker than the other etc?
Thanks in advance

Its very easy to go it alone, you need to get registered first, then call around hospitals in the area you want to live, most will be very interested. Nursing is a priority profession and so you will easily get work. After registration, which takes 4-8 weeks you can seriously start looking for work. Once you have the job offer, its just a matter of them issuing a letter with a nomination number then you can apply for a visa online, which is usually granted within about 4 weeks.
Your spouse doesn't need to be in a priority profession, he will get a work permit along with you.
We started the process at the end of April 2005 and were in Australia by August 2005. We came back in February 06 and are going back, (me to the same job), on Saturday.
If you want to avoid the hassle of ringing around you can go through an employment recruitment agency like:

Who will find you a job, but you will still do all the legwork like registration and visa application, yourself. None of which is difficult and profco are always at the end of the phone if you need advice.
Good luck ;)

You can, if you want also apply direct to a hospital. Many hospitals here will sponsor you and assist with all the paperwork.
It seems like a relatively quick process. Timing is everything i think for me as I am comming up to 45 (well 1 and half years), daughter is in first year of her A levels (don't want to disrupt that) but I am assuming that she would need to be under 18yrs to come with me? And my son who is not accademic is about to start his GCSE. Mmmmmm lots to think about
