Age and the Male Nurse...

Nurses Men

Published

First post. I am not a nurse. I hope to start an accelerate RN program in Colorado in the spring - that is up in the air due to a broken ankle (so lately I've been hospitalized, same day, surgery) but looks promising. I am not young and have had several careers (I am a former law enforcement officer - 8+ years, also was a 'triage' type paramedic with law enforcement before there was so much training ; I have been a CA. licensed DC for some 23 years but stopped practicing following a severe MC crash (DUI Hit me) after which, and for the past 12 years, I've been in IT, both hands on and management) but want to get back to helping people and provide a more 'hands on' service. I am also wanting to 'be able to work almost anywhere' and the RN allows for such joy.

The accelerated program is 2 year or so it sounds but I could finish the BS afterwards while working. I have a health background, regularly exercise in a variety of methods and so remain fit and strong... I am hoping to spend some time picking up suggestions and tips here and very much appreciate the forum.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Welcome to allnurses Bonedoc! :welcome:

Put your feet up and chill.

One of my classmates in nursing school was 58 years old - this was going to be his 4th career! He was an awesome dude. Whats more, his past experiences helped immensely in his new career. Last I heard from him, he was rocking out working as a Post Anesthesia Care Unit nurse - helping folks recover in that crucial time right after surgery.

Them accelerated programs can be hard - so much to do, so little time! But hey - that's what nursing is like :D

Hope to see you 'round

cheers,

Welcome.

You will come to see that we have many career changers on board, from various fields. Also, this is an excellent board to learn, grow, and network.

Good luck to you in starting your program soon.

To answer the username question, refer back to out Terms of Service (the link is at the bottom left on any page). If you currently do not have a health professional license, you can't use it in the username....ie nurse, RN, Dr, et cetera. The exception to this would be adding the suffix "2B" at the end of the username, however, if it is a license you are pursuing. You can change your username easily. Directions are here: https://allnurses.com/forums/f246/how-change-your-username-video-283469.html

Premium members can change name every 120 days. Platinum members every 60 days. Regular members once a year. No permission necessary.

My best to you, to the ankle, and school, my friend.

Make sure to check out our Nursing Student forums too. The Students Tab is at the top of any page.

Again, welcome.
