Age Discrimination

Nurses General Nursing

Hi All,

Has anybody experienced age discrimination as a result of applying for a nursing position? I am in my first semester of nursing school and when finished will be the ripe old age of 46.

I had not have given the idea of age discrimination much thought until I read an article about a nurse in her mid-fifties who was discriminated against. She was in excellent physical condition, and had 20 years of nursing experience on her resume, but was unable to find a job anywhere. She thought that maybe the hospitals she applyed to could find a much less experenced nurse and pay them a lot less.

I am just a bit concerned.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Stephen

I just turned 50 this year. The only place I have experienced age discrimination is in the military. Gary

I'm in my 40s, and I've never suffered from being an older worker, even though I've actually been an RN for only 5 years. My life experience has always given me an edge over younger nurses who may be in better physical shape, but lack the "emotional intelligence" that comes with having been around for awhile. Don't worry, Stephen, you'll find a job easily!!

Best of luck to you!:wink2:
