Good news those pending Air Force induction: Signing bonus is to be offered FY2010, and my recruiter said there will be loan repayment as well (See attachment).
I have my RN license, but my BLS/CPR is expired... will I renew this at some point in the AF before I start working or do I have to do this on my own?
Ok, this may sound silly but what running shoes should I buy. I'm developing a shin splint and I'm told it's my cheap shoes.
I love Saucony and Mizuno but everyone is different. The best thing I ever did for myself was go to an independently owned running store (not a big-box store like Athlete's Foot, etc) and get properly fitted. I started running before COT and at the time owned a pair of "running' shoes. When I started hurting I decided to get fitted. The salesperson watched me run on a treadmill then recommended the best shoes for my running style. The difference was amazing. I used this site to find a store in my area:

You'd be amazed by the assistance you'll get at one of those small running stores, and most of the people that work there are avid runners so they can give you lots of good running tips too.
Yea that might be a problem, because I don't have 2500 to blow some damn clothes... this is really ******* me off. :angryfireDoes living on base for NTP depend on what base you are at? I don't have a car and I don't have any money!
BTW Are OTS and COT the same thing?
Don't worry, you can apply for a Military Star card and use it to pay for your uniforms. I believe it might even be interest free for a year but I'm not positive. Look into it. There were so many people at COT that had to do this to buy their uniforms.
Like wtbcrna said, you can look around for deals, just start looking now.
The mess dress really is a waste. If you go to COT during "summer surge" they don't make you buy it. The large summer groups often don't have dining-outs, we had a dining-in. It was 300+ COT students and a small number of guests in a hot hangar. We wore ABUs and drank beer out of kegs. It was about as far from needing mess dress as one could be. I'm hoping that I can hold out and perhaps maybe dodge ever having to buy it.
At COT I bought the bare minimum (3 ABU sets, two sets of blues, PT gear, and all the accoutrements necessary). I think I spent approx $1000 on uniforms. Two years later I've barely bought anything to add except for a few blues shirts and a blues jacket. Since I only wear my ABUs for about 3 hours a week total, I doubt I will ever buy any more. I'm holding out for deployment to get myself an issued ABU coat :)
Thank you. If you don't hear from us for a while........you understand :)
If I can't get on the internet every day, I will probably die of from withdrawal symptoms... I do other things, but my computer is like my all-knowing-child-teacher-entertainer.
I also trade futures and I will cry if I can't anymore.

No OTS is for all other officers besides medical and clergy. It is longer (12 weeks) and more intense. The COT is a much abbreviated training program and you are a direct commission.
