I am really interested in the medical aesthetics thing--botox, stuff like that. Anybody know where I can get trained? I live in Colorado, by the way.

Would you suggest a person to get their esty license if they are already an RN and would like get into aesthetic nursing? I am considering it because I feel it would be the best way to learn about skin. I have had other people tell me that it would not be necessary but I am thinking it may help me get into the field. There is not a lot of jobs in this field in my area so I thought it may help me get a foot in the door. Thanks.

WE are living in the age of DEGREED programs.Save yourself the hassle down the road, even if you are now a RN and call the BOARD governing that specialty in your state and GET THE FULLEST degree to enhance your RN now and be done with it. It only takes a few law suits and before you know it a one year diploma means nothing. You can't get too much training on someone's skin and you will be happy years from now when you get a job with all the degrees and have that knowledge, too. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. ;)

The most important thing is to make sure that you receive the proper training. Didactic training is good, but hands-on training is more important. Certification is also a must, as most doctors will need to make sure the you have CE credits for insurance purposes.

I am almost done with my BSN in Nursing, and I have a couple questions in regards to aestetic nursing. I really want to work in a cosmetic practice administering Botox and Dermal fillers. Can I just go to training seminar or do I have to attend aesthetic school to be certified, or do you even have to be certified. I am just not sure the route to take, and I dont want to waste time or money if its not necessary. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Also I live in CA if that makes a difference. Thanks everyone for your help! :)

I have a 20 plus year critical care nursing career. I went to esthetician school (600 hours) to become a skin care specialist, and a little over a year ago started my own business. I do facials with Dermalogica, chemical peels, microderm, waxing, permanent makeup, and just trained on Botox. It is all a challenge but I love being independent. It is a far cry from the ICU.

I would love to hear more about your Education. I am in nursing school now and want to go into esth nursing afterwards. Is going to esth school once i am done with nursing the best way to go? or should I just go to one of those esthetic training institutes for RN,NP,PA,DO,MD? and can RN's do laser treatments in Florida?

i wanted to say thanks to all of you who have offered advice in this area. i began getting familiar with this business about a year ago. sharing your experiences has really helped me in my own aesthetic business. i've had my skin clinic for three months now. it is (very) slowy growing. and that is good considering i have done almost no advertising. which brings me to another question. has anyone tried advertising in the local ad mailers or ad clipper type papers? i see many salons advertising in them around here, so it must be profitable, though i have no idea how much an ad like that would cost. i actually have gotten most of my clients through word of mouth and other client referrals.

a few suggestions: the local ad sections have a contact number on the back for placing an add. sometimes they run specials and you can get an ad placed for a steal:bdyhdclp: another suggestion is go to the local radio stations, offer up your services to the appropriate employees or donate your own gift cards for their radio prizes in return for a few good words of advertisement on the air. the radio is probably one of the best resources. you could try the same for t.v although i don't think you will be able to strike that bargain unless you know some one.

youtube will also be a great resource for free advertisement.

do not underestimate the power of the tube! :D it doesnt even have to be youtube there are several other sites that offer free video interaction

i.e... met cafe. these videos pop up frequently during google searches when some one is looking for services or words with corresponding key words in the video description or title. make a video {a nice one!} of your venue, and your self, performing a service on a friend aka "client." if for what ever reason you find that you neither have the time nor the talent, equipment, or money to do a nice video for not only this but your buisness web site as well you can always hire a student at a local college or university that is majoring in graphics,film and or computers. they will do it for cheap because they need the money, the experience, and the "contacts" exposure, and for the same reasons they will do a great job.

craigs list, again is great; you can advertise and barter services i.e... you need a mechanic,electrician,handyman,massages,hair styling or even furniture!:lol2: lol anything really you can then barter their services for yours. the point is exposure leads to new aquaintances and more word of mouth and that leads to more buisness:idea:

another idea is offer a student like $20.00 to pass out your flyers with your coupons on it the student can also post it up on campus. i know broke college students are not the ideal target clientel but they have older more financially secure parents and so do their friends and there is also the teaching faculty.

use twitter,facebook, and myspace!

all of these are low cost or free ways to get your buisness out there and noticed.

Can anyone reply or PM me about getting laser training for a Lyrica 2000 in Oregon or in the NW? Have an opportunity to learn this, the laser is owned, but don't know where to start.

I am very interested in becoming an esthetician. I have an appointment with Boca Beauty Academy tomorrow. I'm interested in both aesthetics and nursing and would love to combine the two fields. I'm also interested in massage therapy and may consider doing that as well in the future. The field of medical estheticians is new to me so I'm trying to gather all of the information that I can about this. Also I'm not yet accepted into a nursing program so I'm looking into other careers to get into in the mean time. Oh, I live in Florida, btw.

Hello, I am interested in aesthetics, as well. Have you found out any information for yourself? I also live in Florida and have recently graduated from nursing school. I am not entirely interested in going the traditional route. I was thinking of eventually applying to plastic surgeon's offices or wellness spas.
