Hi all--
I am really interested in the medical aesthetics thing--botox, stuff like that. Anybody know where I can get trained? I live in Colorado, by the way.
THANKS

I have noted in my Nurseweek mag (and similar publications) companies that train nurses to do this...check http://www.nurseweek.com classifieds and I'll bet you find them there too. I'll pm you some to avoid any inadvertent TOS violation.
Good luck...I'm currently looking for a PICC line training course. Fun to think of opportunities outside the traditional nurses' bedside role isn't it? :)
I'm enjoying perusing the nurse entrepeneur forum. :)

Hi!
I also am interested in this area of nursing and also live in Colorado. I did find a clinic in Texas that is willing to train. Let me know if you find anything around here!
Thanks!

I am also interested in this, but, concerned about malpractice insurance covering me. In the state of Florida, you have to be under the medical direction of an MD on site. I guess a nurse could fall under the MD's license, but if anything went wrong, would the MD really cover you?

Hi! I received training from Sasha Parker, RN in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, it is Esthetic Skin Institute....very good! I completed microderms and chemical peels, hope to do Botox soon too...I am trying to obtain professional Liability Insurance though...having a hard time since I employ myself. If you know of any info, let me know. There were 2 RNs from Colorado in my class :)

I also was trained by Sasha Parker.....I attended the Botox and dermal filler classes. She was wonderful and I liked how she also focused on the legal and business aspects of these areas in addition to the actual skills. Over the past year I have followed her business model....becoming incorporated, writing standards of practice, protocols, standing orders, getting a business liscense---the works. What has proven to be the most difficult part is getting a physician "medical director" to basically be available telephonically and sign off the charts after I do all the work. It's not that these physicans are not interested...they really are quite agreeable to work as a subcontractor for me ( RN,BSN)......it's the malpractice insurance. It is CRAZY expensive for them and they understandably do not want to work without it despite the fact that Botox is very low risk with no PERMANENT side effects. I was wondering if you knew of a Malpractice carrier that would insure a Botox trained physician for a reasonable rate.....I'm ready to slit my wirsts here.

New nurse here. I am interested in aesthetics also. I went to their site, but can't find out how much it costs. Can anybody give me a ballpark range? Also, I am interested in dermatology nursing but don't know much about it althought I do transcription on the side for a dermatologist. Do any dermatologists do aesthetic things such as facial peels in their office? I don't think my dermatologist does. Thanks.

kimberly i am in colorado as well and instruct permanent makeup and microderm. I would love to share any experience i can with yu.
hi everyone it seems that you all have questions that i can answer. first of all in colorado my state it is within scope of practice to do perm makeup and microderm with out a physician. that is why i have 2 offices with no headaches. i offer training in these fields. i have been doing procedures since 1993 and teaching for 2 years now. insurance for those of you already doing aesthetics should contact marineagency.com and speak to marylynn at x 15. my students receive 10% off malpractice rates. if anyone has any specific questions let me know i love to share info that sometimes seems hard to find.

I am critical care nurse and have always been extremely interested in cosmetic surgery. I would like to make the transition from critical care to become an aesthetic nurse, and need to know the best way to do this. I have found teaching clinics but don't know which ones are worth the money or if I should try to get employeed by a cosmetic surgeon and let him send me to the classes. Any advice from someone with experience in this field of work?
