  1. I'm currently working on my BSN online through Jacksonville University's RN to BSN - awesome program, btw! I started in April and should be finishing by the end of of April of 2012. I'm looking into what my next step is. I currently work for a psychiatric facility for clients with eating disorders. I've developed a passion for this population and I want to continue working in this field. Especially in our area, there are no psychiatrists for this population, and the facility I work for is the main provider for residential and partial hospitalization, as well as intensive outpatient and outpatient. I'm very proud to be a part of this team and I would like to continue as a nurse practitioner. Is there anyone who has done a BSN to DNP program? What do you think of this? And are there any psych tracks? I have not found any tracked with psychiatric, but I have with adult and family NP and I think that would be a good option if psych isn't available. Thank you in advanced!
  2. I am a new nurse working at a facility in which we use paper MARS. I am wondering if there are any other nurses out there who use it to ask what does your facility do prevent medication errors? We have orders e-mailed, printed out and filed in client's charts, have made a checklist that is done weekly to follow through that staff and clients are initialing, etc. I am the one who transcribes orders onto the MARS and distribute the morning and afternoon medications, and then bag for evening and weekend medications. The small baggies that we use I include client initials, time of administration, date, name of drug and dosage, and baggies are place in envelopes with the day on it. The therapists administer medications during the evenings and weekends. Is there anything else that you do for patient safety?
  3. Thank you for the advice :) I'm going on my third week and I am absolutely loving it. Granted, I'm a little nervous over the idea that I'll be leading some group education sessions, but I'm looking forward to it. I'm developing a better understanding of the physiologic consequences, and I am continuing to learn more. I am also developing a better understanding in the use of the different types of medications, such as antipsychotic and antianxiety medications. I do know it'll take time to learn the behavioral aspect, as I do interact with the clients through out the day. I feel that this is a place where I should be, and I am looking forward to see what comes next.
  4. I accepted a position to work for a smaller facility that focuses solely on clients with eating disorders. They have residential programs for both male and female clients, as well as partial hospitalization and outpatient treatment. I am a new graduate with no prior healthcare experience other than what I gained while in nursing school. We did have a quarter of Psychiatric Nursing, but as for eating disorders, I do not have any experience. The staff is wonderful and I feel that they will be a great help while I learn my duties, policies, and procedures, and they even recommended books such as "When Your Child Has An Eating Disorder" and "Life Without Ed" to help me gain a better understanding. Are there any experience nurses who have recommendations on reading materials, such as communication with clients, or more condensed textbook like reading to review standard medications and nursing interventions so I can carry with me on site? Or just advice in general for a new nurse in this area? I want to feel more prepared for this position, because I will be the only RN on staff. Thank you in advanced :)
  5. They'll determine whether you've passed based on the last 60 questions you answered. A friend of mine took the entire 6 hours and didn't finish all 265 and was told that. She also ended up passing.
  6. Hello, I am interested in aesthetics, as well. Have you found out any information for yourself? I also live in Florida and have recently graduated from nursing school. I am not entirely interested in going the traditional route. I was thinking of eventually applying to plastic surgeon's offices or wellness spas.
