Advice: suggested order of prerequisites

Hello All:

I am new to the forum. The upcoming semester will be my first time taking any science classes bc last semester i had to take basic english bc of my low entrance exam grade . Currently I am registered for BIO 109, PYS 101. During the summer, i plan on taking CHEM 100. At BCC, the application deadline for the nursing program is October for the Jan 2012 semester.

MY QUESTION TO YOU GUYS IS: Do you think that taking these classes in this order I will have a chance at applying for the program in October or should I take BIO and CHEM first?

Specializes in ER, Med-Surg.

It doesn't sound like it will make a difference. As long as both of those classes are completed by October, which they will be, it won't matter how you choose to do it.

Bio and chem provide a foundation, supposedly, for the other sciences. However, I have found that all instructors and texts provide a review of the essential bio and chem at the beginning of the course.

If I had one piece of advice, it would be to take A&P classes before you start the nursing program, and work your butt off in them. I did, with a very touch instructor, and I've felt the advantage.

I don't know if that helps in your situation. But if you don't make it in this time, take a year of all the nursing-related science classes you can. In most schools, this improves your chances for the next time. I'm glad I had to take two years of prereqs before i got in.

Schools won't care. If they do they'll list the order they want them taken in. Chemistry would be good before taking biology since biology is really nothing more than an applied chemistry. I used to teach both subjects so I can say that objectively. However, you could just as easily take chem. last.

Chem, bio, anatomy, physio, micro. I found that if you get a good foundation in each of these classes it makes the next one easier. That was my experience.

Thank you all for taking time from your busy lives to respond. These are some good suggestions. ttyl
