Advice please! (Taking Pre-Reqs)

Hello Nurses and Nursing Students!

This website has been so helpful and informative to me already, and I'm not even in nursing school yet! I love it!

I just registered today for:

Sociology 1

Anatomy & Physiology 1

Biology

Human Development

Up until now I had been a 22 year old part-time student, full-time worker. I am blessed and happy to say my situation has changed and I am able to go to school full-time and work part-time. I am taking advantage of this to finally go after my goal of becoming an R.N! I am going after an ASN program, and taking Fall 2010 classes and Spring 2011 classes to apply for a Fall 2011 Nursing program. I know how competitive it is, and part of me is very worried it won't pan out... but think good thoughts, right?

Thanks all- just wanted to share my news and get any former student advice!

First - Good luck!

I just got accepted into a Nursing program that begins in a few weeks and here is what helped me achieve good grades.

1. Eat something before going to class - you would be surprised how a person's mind can wander when one is hungry.

2. Try to figure out what helps you best when studying. Some people excel by studying in groups of other students who want to go into nursing, other's, like me, like to study alone in a library.

3. Try to learn the 'lingo' of A&P as quickly as possible.

4. Usually textbooks these days come with a nice CD or a corresponding website that has great visual applications that can make something that looks like really complicated in the book into something learnable.

5. Study...but if you feel like you can't go on make sure to know when to stop.

Gluck =D

is that Gen Bio that your taking along with A/P I?

also, just curious, are you going to HCC?

Sue, yes it's Gen Bio. Up until now I was doing an arts major, not sciences so unfortunately I haven't taken it yet.

Not going to HCC, I am located in Delaware :)

Thank you so much, these are so helpful! Even though I've been in school for 2 years I have never even taken regular daytime classes, always been a night student and I know it's different!

I'm actually already reading my a&p book to get ahead, you are not the first one to tell me about that class.. haha

Thank you so much!! I appreciate it and I'm really hoping I get into this program :)

I'm among the group of people working ahead for A&P, I found my teacher, found his website on the school and found his syllabus to get an idea of how he teaches and what he ranks (quizzes, tests, discussions, etc) I know the topics AP1 covers at my school and Ive been reading the texts, AP for dummies and using flash cards to prepare since June. Same for human dev. It is alot of work in addition to my summer courses, but I will be way more prepared going into the course than others.

Thanks! I'm sure our classes will run similarly, so we should try and keep in touch to help each other!

GO YOU!!!! My teacher's syllabus isn't up yet, but I've got my book and I'm reviewing already! In a class with so much to learn, I think it's smart to do what you are doing!

Do you by chance have any study guides/outlines typed up? I'm in the process of typing some up myself! We could help each other out.

Way to go- you're a motivator!:yeah:
