Hi everyone,

I need advice I've been in primary care RN for 2 years. Does primary care RN transfer to FNP as far as hiring managers for oncology center? I'm worried that I won't get any phone calls or emails for an interview. Just want to know if someone got the same experience or please share your RN to FNP transitions. Thank you so much in advance!

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking.

I think what you're asking for specifically is whether having only primary care experience as an RN will hinder you from getting an oncology NP position. I think it would really help to have oncology experience or at least go to a school where there is an oncology specialty focus, such as UCLA or Duke, if that's what you're sure you want to do as an NP. Also, you should get your chemo/targeted therapy certification from ONS.

Having only primary care experience as an RN will make it very difficult to obtain an NP position in oncology.  Most of the jobs state that the applicant must have RN experience in oncology and/or acute care.  I suggest you try to work in either oncology or acute care as an RN prior to becoming an NP, if you want to go into oncology.  Good luck.
