Hi sbeattrix.

Thanks.. 457 visa is 4 years validity. I don't think there are any other working visas longer or shorter than that.

Congrats @annievitug!

Did you apply for your 457 online? At which point can you apply for the visa? Is there a nomination reference code of sorts? How much was the visa btw?

Thanks!

I applied online. You can apply for the visa once the employer lodged their nomination already. Visa is $455.

hi guys! im still waiting for my visa decision.. i dont know whats taking it so long.. so my problem is i want to book a flight already since airfare gets expensive as you get closer to your desired flight date but i dont have a visa yet. my question is.. for example my visa effectivity will start on august 1, my intake will be august 2.. is it ok to book my flight on july 31 even if the effectivity date is still on august 1? the flight takes almost 24 hours so ill arrive on melbourne august 1 already.

Oh.. Okay. At first I thought all 457 visas are valid for 4 years. I just read some articles that 457 visa validity can be from 3 months to 4 years, and is determined for how long the employer needs the employee. Guess I'm lucky enough to be granted with visa until 2017.

Sponsorship and nomination is done by the employer. I'm not too familiar bur according to what is stated in the website, Sponsorship means when the employer / business applies to become a sponsor so that they will be eligible to hire overseas workers. Nomination is when the employer nominates a candidate for a certain position. These processes should be completed first before the candidate can apply for the visa. The employer pays for the sponsorship and nomination while candidate pays and lodges the visa.
