H-1C newbie

hi everyone,

i am an RN in Wisconsin using my OPT to work. however, my OPT expires in January of 2008. My hospital is willing to sponsor me for green card but there aren't any available right now, and according to October Visa Bulletin predictions, there probably won't be any available soon. i am running out of time on my OPT and i am running out of options, except to go back to school but i don't exactly have the budget for that right now. there is a hospital in chicago that is willing to sponsor me for H-1C. i know this visa is not exactly recommended because the hospitals aren't in great areas and i will have to sign a 3 year contract, but i don't have very many options right now. has anyone gone throught the same process? any insight is greatly appreciated!

There is really no one forcing someone not to try on H1C or even H1B.

We are here to inform of it's pros and cons, those still wanting to try after hearing the pros and cons may still do so. It is the individual's decision and he or she must take responsibility for their own decision as well.

Thanks. I do appreciate your advice. I don't want to take responsibility for something stupid. But the information that you say is too general. Bad is too general. I could say that working in Ukraine was BAD THE WORST POSSIBLE when I had to wait for my salary for half a year and it was $20 in 1997. How is that bad for you?

Did anybody here actually work there or it's just want you heard?

There are are already detailed posts regarding H1Bs and H1Cs. Maybe not in this thread. People will just have to search for it. It would be hard for moderators to post the same thing over and over again.

I have detailed posts regarding H1Bs and H1Cs and most of it are located and complete with links from sources in one of the stickies above. We also have a google search option within the forums to find those old posts and threads and as far as me is concern people who are long time members here know that I always provide links for my sources to back-up what I say. I just can't post a link or say the same exact thing over and over again. That is why we have posts/threads and stickies for people to go back to.

Those doing a research will be able to find the information they want here. If you'll ask some long-time members here, there is actually an overload of information already and you will keep reading the same questions and we try and keep answering them as well. : )

The information can be located within our forums. It is just matter of finding it and a matter of agreeing or disagreeing with it and then standing by their own convictions.

There are other active and more recent threads out there as well but you may want to start with the link I gave above.

As far as H1C visa is concern, it is more straightforward. Only 500 visas are available per year and limited to just about 14 hospitals all-over the US. Links to that list were already posted in the forum one way or the other and every other immigration website has information on the H1C visa as well and as we noted the H1C is available but with certain pros and cons and most of it were already discussed on this thread and other similar threads. Best way is to actually find out about working conditions about the 14 or so hospitals that can avail of it, including the area it is located on which I think you already started to do base on your other posts. It is up to the individual to decide for themselves if it's worth it or if it's safe enough base on their own assessments.

Not sure what training that you have received in the US, but if it is not the actual BSN, then it does not qualify for the H1-B or the H1-C as a start.

And if you have the four year degree, then there are many other countries that you can also go to besides returning to your country.

You have worked hard to get your degree and license, would not want to see you lose it because of having too large of a patient load. And if you are a new nurse, then it is hard to get either of these visas on top of it especially for the H1-B, as the job that you are applying for must require the BSN for minimum entry and most bedside jobs do not do that. The other jobs usually require several years of experience as an RN as well.

We are trying to be helpful and get very tired when agencies make comments or offers that there is no way that they can honor.
