Advice for NLN (Only in 1st semester of Pre-reqs)

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

From what I understand at my school, I have to apply to the nursing program February 2011, which means taking the NLN before that time.

I will have only had one semester of my pre-reqs at that time (starting my first semester in 2 weeks), so what can I do to stay on track and be ready at that time for the exam, or should I stop stressing?

Buy a NLN study exam book and start studying when you are not studying for your classes.

It's nice to know you weaknesses and strengths beforehand. I knew before I started studying that I didn't need any help on the English portion, that I could use some refreshing on some parts of the Science portion, but I needed a lot of help on the Math portion. So I spent most of my time studying the Math section of the study book (which was phenomenal by the way) while studying some of the basic physics and chemistry in the book that I have forgotten when I was bored of the math. So if I would break up my study time into a percentage, I would say that I studied Science 20% of the time and the Math 80%. I didn't study the verbal at all because I knew that I was strong in it.

What are your strengths and weaknesses? If you don't know, buy the book, try a practice exam and see how well you do and what areas you are having trouble with.

Remember to study as much as possible and as soon as possible.

By using the book and using my time wisely on what to study, I scored:

comp: 140

Verbal: 96

Math: 84

Science: 98

Good Luck!

Thank you so much! I think I am very similar to you as far as skills for the NLN go. I am VERY strong in Verbal/English but TERRIBLE at math! I eventually get it.. but it takes me probably 5 hours for every 1 hour a 'normal' student takes to learn something. I've always been that way. Oh well, I'll just have to push myself harder to learn math.

I suppose I will get that book a.s.a.p and just carve out some time like any other class to study for. I'd rather be ahead than behind!

Thank you very much for your advice, I greatly appreciate it! :)

I just bought the book too! I'm taking the NLN in December, so I have time to study. My mentality is to study each section of the book slowly over the next few months, figure out what my weaknesses are and focus on those. :) Best of luck to you guys.

most of the schools that i applied for require the nln but i have no idea how to go about taking it or where. i bought the study guide. i keep calling the schools but get no answer or i have to leave messages. i don't want to miss the deadline but i'm getting so frustrated trying to reach someone for this information. any ideas?
