Just get a liscence in that state once you pass your NCLEX. Good luck!

If you are in a compact state, all the better.

You can do this two ways:

1. Apply for initial licensure in whatever state you want to work in.

However, if you live in one of the 24 compact states, you have to apply for initial licensure in your home state--you can't apply to another compact state. See Question #8 on https://www.ncsbn.org/2002.htm

2. Apply for initial licensure in the state you live in, then endorse for licensure in any state(s) you want to work in.

About what C-lion said: if you live (key word: live) in a compact state, you are eligible to work in 24 states with one license. It's very handy if you live near a state line or want to do travel nursing.

However if you move from one compact state and establish permanent residence in another compact state, you do have to apply to your new state's Board of Nursing for endorsement. Also, you can't hold a multi-state license if you live in a non-compact state.

Hope this helps.
