Advice for New Grad starting her FIRST ever NURSING JOB

Published

Hi.

I am both excited and nervous.

A week ago, when I got the job, I was just but FULL of EXCITEMENT and enthusiasm. I feel like I can start and begin working anytime. Now that I am finally gonna start my training/orientation next week, nervousness is starting to creep in. But I still keep on telling myself everyday that "All iz well. You will be the best nurse that you can ever be. You will learn all that you can in 8 weeks".

I believe that I have the passion and the willingness to learn and to serve above and beyond. And the determination to do all the hardwork that needs to be done.

What caused this nervousness is the fact that it's a new environment. This is the first time ever that I'm gonna work. I was educated in a different country and now I'm gonna work in my dream country. And I know that I am not the most excellent of students back in nursing school. And I came from a nursing school that has a culture where it is true what they say "nurses eat their young" Yup our CIs were both excellent and fierce.

All those thoughts creeps in. I have anticipation. excitement and fear. I hate the last word because it is crippling.

Any ADVICE?

I know that the institution that I'm gonna work is utterly different from nursing school. they're all so kind. Everyone has a heart of leader - always seeking good in people. That I am assured.

I guess my battle is in my mind. SO, I need and outsider (you) to tell me some advice.

Thank you! :)

Expect to be overwhelmed and know it's ok-you'll get it in time. Have an open learning attitude. Don't act like you know everything. If you mess something up or do something wrong (and you will) apologize and ask how to do it better. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Show initiative. Once you learn something don't wait to be told to do it if it's expected of you and part of the job- ask if you can just go ahead. Take notes and study diseases/illnesses at home that you've experienced each day. Be kind to everyone and especially yourself! Good luck!

Thank you, Blue_Moon :) :')

Yes, I will be kind to myself too :) hahahahaha.

Even right now, I'm already overwhelmed at the thought of it but I can do this :)
