Advice needed for second time nclex taker

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello all!

I graduated in May 2015 and took Nclex in July. I had 95% chance of passing via ati review in school. Took and failed at 265 questions. Everyone said if I got that many that I barely failed, but that's still failure!! I found out I was pregnant the same week so maybe my mind got the best of me?? At any rate, I still failed and need your advice.

Im not sure what the best review tools are and I'm not really sure how to even go about tackling a review. I work 50+ hours a week and now have a one year old, so any feedback to help me organize and prepare are welcomed. I feel like such a failure and just scared to death to even reattempt this exam since I've lost all the knowledge. Money is limited right now, as I am the only one supporting the family so any advice, I am open to. Thank you all so much in advance!! Good luck and God bless!

I wouldn't call yourself a failure, I think you might be overthinking the questions. There is a high percentage of first time passing rates for the NCLEX, something over 85%. Getting through nursing school is a much tougher task than passing the NCLEX, as you can see by the passing rates. From my experience, out of my initial class from 1st semester of 40, about only 20 of the original graduated. You've already gone through the tough part, you know the material, just go in with the mindset for the next attempt that you are going to answer 265 questions, and kick butt.

For a refresher course, i'm sure some of your classmates might have a access to a free review, there are lots of them out there. I would recommend on practicing as many test questions as you can, that is what helped me out the most. There's a good free app on the mobile stores to help you with pharm and labs if you need help with that. Check it out, its called NCLEX Drug Study Guide or the website nclexessentials.barcalabs.com. Best of luck!
