Hi,

After 10 years of working in an acute Hospital now looking for a change. I have a job interview with RDNS as a liason nurse Grade 4A next week. Any advice? Has anyone had a job interview with RDNS? Not sure what to expect as its been a while since I had an interview. Any advice would be most appreciated :)

Thanks

hey patty here is what my friend posted 4 you to know re ur job interview. she's a clinical nurse with many years experience so this should help:

[color=#333333]....its important that they mention that they are part of an allied health team to promote health and needs of the client, this involves family gp's podiatry pharmacies etc. work within the boundaries of your role rn or en or carer and work within the boundaries of the nurses board guidelines. that you can guide and direct enrolled nurses and are an asset to your team with the skills that you have. look up rdns mission statement on their website so they know what the organisation offers and what they stand for. important that you work ... especially with medication ....with what the doctor has prescribed. you're an advocate for the clients. and if they havent done a wound care course yet that you are willing to do a wound care course to update your skills. .. know your ohs with back care and manual handling cpr... you will be expected to pass a drug calculation test prior to the interview .also in the interview they will always ask you about a conflict situation you have been in and how you resolved or dealt with it..... so have one ready.... most of all be eager to work for us.... good luck....

[color=#333333]really get to know the organisation & what they stand for. call them and ask re a typical day with rdns. also remember ur time management - how will u schedule ur time with multiple calls, ie: wound care, iv care, someone may have a suspected mi when ur on a call, how would you handle that? would u use a time planner for ur day/a diary maybe and stick with that? always say ur willing to be flexible 2 work with any organisation, and willing to do extra training (even if it's outside of normal hours). they will give u some emergency scenarios so brush up on basic & advanced cpr skills (go through drabc[color=#333333]).

[color=#333333]

[color=#333333]also think about your strengths & weaknesses, what can u bring to the organisation that makes u a better candidate? also know ur occ health & safety rules, common medications & side effects, how do u deal with conflict or a complaint from a client (ie: always say you will follow organisational policy first) .

[color=#333333]

[color=#333333]can't think of anything else at the mo but study hard on the weekend and good luck! let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for the help & advice :0 will let you know how I go.

I'm sure u will do great Don't be too nervous and make a little joke when u first go in 4 the interview - it will break the ice a bit, and remember to smile and laugh a little! Don't be too serious!

Best of luck.

Hi how did u go with the job interview? Have u heard anything yet?

Let me know :)

Hey I got the job!! I heard back from them on Friday I start 1st week of Jan. The interview was pretty straightforward more management style questions & how I would promote the service etc. I was overprepared which was great. Thanks for ur advice & that of your friend :0

Looking forward to a change will let u know how I go once I start. The only hard thing will be leaving my 10month a month earlier than planned.

Great stuff, well done! I might get some tips off of you for changing from hospital nursing myself, as I'm at the point where I can't do it anymore, (I'm 44 soon and am getting too old!) I just don't feel like I make a difference anymore to people's lives.

Email me privately after u start, hope it all goes well.

Hey, I got a new job that does not require me to do any dressings, look at any private bits, take any obs and a higher pay....a clinical nurse specialist yippee, so nervous.

Hey C, congrats. Where is ur new job, is it in a hospital? I sent u an email ages ago, did u get it?

I'm going to try & get a job through RDNS in Adelaide next year. My gf is a CN with them, so hopefully she can help out. I think I've had enough of nursing, and it's not what I really want to do anymore, don't feel like I make a difference anymore.

Good on ya!
