I am a English nurse :nurse: who hopefully will be relocating to the States (providing I pass the NCLEX) I will be taking the exam in May, and wondered if anyone out there can offer any advice on this exam. I have got the books, on line practice discs etc, but I guess its nothing like the real thing. Is there anyone out there who found the actually exam harder than the practice discs etc (or easier)? Any good tips, advice would be greatly appreciated. I really need to pass the exam first time round

I studied for about 4 months and passed first time.

All Ican say is study, study, study.

I started my UK training in 1988 so had a lot to catch up on.

Just try and get into the US way of thinking and you will be fine.

PS I used Kaplan

Check out the International Forum, as well as NCLEX Forum, for more details on what to do.

I only recommend Saunder's Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN for international trained nurses. And only that. By using so many different sources, you are only going to get confused.

There is too much a difference in the rationales behind the answers, and you want to pay close attention to those.

Hi

You are right to think the practice tests are nothing like the real thing. I won't lie to you, I found the actual exam much harder than the practice tests.....maybe nerves played a part in that, I don't know, it just seemed like nothing I had ever done before :o But I'm one of the unlucky ones who ended up doing the maximum 265 questions, I never took a break and I was at that darn screen for 5 hours 40 minutes  ........but the good news is I passed first time :D .......I followed all the good advice on here, studied hard for quite a few months, and the last 3 weeks before the exam I did a practice test every night. My best advice to you is......just keep practising NCLEX style questions, invest in Saunders if you haven't already got it, and just give it your best shot.......and the very best of luck to you :nurse:

Thanks very much for that advice and information, and Congratulations to you for passing the exam. I bet you thought the worse when you went to the full number of questions? I have not got the Saunders material but wonder if its worth buying it as i have only just over 2 weks before I take the exam. I have been using the Kaplan book and disc, and just signed up and paid for the NCSBN online nclex prep. I did the tests on there, and I thought they was difficult, and I did not do to well. I thought from using the Kaplan I thought I was ready, but now after the NCBSN I don,t think I am. More studying neeed i think.......
