  1. Yes you can take the LPN....I am already onto this and been in touch with the appropriate college of LPN. You have to have a prioe and learning assessment done by a local college, and take a challenge exam then have a skills assessment, then then tailor a course for you depending on your assessement. Once you have completed your modules you then get your credentials for Licensed practice murse and deemed eligable to take the LPN exam and get a temp licence to work as a LPN under the condition that you sit the exam and pass within 1 year. Good luck to you on yr results
  2. Hi Jhaydenj, Maybe I am wrong and you are correct but what I think what you are referring to, is the SEC (substantially equivalent competence assessment) which is free as I understand. Its an assessment by your local college they assess your skills and competences and find what areas you are weak in and indentify whether you are able to meet the competenceies expected of a RN. It also see's if there is a need for additional preperation and what competency requirements need to be addressed. Is this the kind of thing you are referring to? If not and there is some other assessment that I am not even aware of then I would love to know, maybe you can send me the link for the website. As far as I am aware, and this is directly from CARNA you are only allowed to take the CRNE exam 3 times. As any one else heard of this assessemnt that Jhaydenj mentions? Maybe janfrn could enlighten me on this one?
  3. Yes it is true that was my 3rd and final attempt. I studeid very hard prior to the exam, even went to a course every week to improve my chances and did mock exams every week and was getting 88-90% on them. Can not understand what went wrong on the big day???? But all said and done I FAILED. The passing score was 141 points and I got 125. Good luck to all those who wait, hope your news is all GOOD
  4. Even though I am feeling very sad at this moment learning I have failed yet again, I just want to say to all those still waiting for their results........good luck and hope your news is GOOD:clphnds:
  5. I got my results.....and as feared Failed yet again, my world has just fallen :scrying:apart.
  6. Yep thats what my forms states passing mark 146
  7. I live in Calgary, got my results today and have FAILED for the 2nd time. Has anyone attended a Substanially Eqivilant competence (SEC) assessment at the Mount Royal college in Calgary. If so what are your thoughts on this? Is it worth doing? I am now getting desperate, only have 1 more chance at this Exam. Last year I failed by 29 points this year by 19 points.............HELP please. Congratulations to all of you that passed the October 08 exam ....WELL DONE:clphnds:
  8. :typingGood Morning, I am working as a grad nurse:nurse: here in the Community in Calgary and am loving every minute of it. I previously worked at the Rocky view when we first moved here, and hated it. I worked there when I sat the CRNE exam the 1st time, and No they did not terminate my Contract. When I failed the exam I continued to work as a Grad nurse and still working as a grad nurse. Yes, you are correct that you are allowed to sit the exam 3 times, although not sure of the time period. The main concern is your temporary nursing permit, I am now on my 4th permit and to get it re-issued a 4th you have to justify by letter to CARNA why. The board then sit and decided if they will renew your licence...scary. They decided I could have Licence renewed and these licenses are valid for 6 months only. So I just hope that I pass the Exam this time, as I am scared that once my license is next due in April they may not renew.....then I will be out of nursing.....to scary to even think about. Not sure if anyone else out there as experinced this? If you answer the questions based on your nursing expereince in the Uk you could fail. The Canadian way of nursing/thinking is different in some ways. What we would consider a priority they don't, so this can mislead you when answering questions. Its a good idea to work in Canada before sitting the exam to get the feel for things. I worked for 5 months then sat...and failed the exam, but there were several reasons which I believe led me to fail. Good luck with your move to Calgary and with the exam....where in the FMC (Foothills) will you be working? have you been offered a definite job? Cheeca:)
  9. Hi all :typing I sat the exam yesterday 8th October.....and now we play the waiting game, why it has to take so long is any ones guess, The NCLEX you know your reslts 2 days after if you pay, but then again its computerised....maybe the CRNE should be like that. I sat the CRNE last year 2007 after arriving in Calgary to live from the UK... and I failed it. So keeping everything crossed this time round. I was also suprised that when I opened up both the books there were some of the exact same questions as last year. Good luck to everyone........
  10. Hi :typing I worked as a Grad when I arrived in Calgary in June 2007 sat the exam 5 months after...and failed. I took a year before I applied again for the exam and sat it for the 2nd time yesterday........now we play a waiting game. Its good to work first and get into the Canadian way of thinking like you say. Nursing in the UK is so different and done different, and if you answer a question on what you would do back home in the UK then you would be wrong in many instances. Good luck with your exams...
  11. Hi Just to clarify something. They are supposed to pay you from the start as a Graduate nurse and not an undergraduate, They pay this grad stutus while you wait to sit the CRNE exam. My contract stated that would be paid as a Grad nurse providing they receive all the Previous past expereince forms from the UK, which I did supply them with, but then they always say they have not got them, so pay you Undergrad pay. You have to get on the case quickly and pressure them, until they pay you the correct grad nurse pay.
  12. Hi Grad nurses get paid depending on their previous experience and you have to get recognition of previous experience authorisation forms completed by your past NHS employers and these have to be sent to the employer here in Calgary ie, Calgary health region. They then decided how much they will pay you based on those forms. I got quite a few forms from all my past employers. I am paid the top salary of a Grad nurse which is now $34, due to past experience. However when I started with the region they paid me as a Undergrad nurse of $20, despite them having these forms. Every English nurse I have spoke to here siad they all have had the same problems. they pay as an undergrad to start with then you have to battle to get the correct pay. As my LMO it took 1 day for it to come as they mostly already have them in place, so that was not a problem. Once I got my LMO i could then apply to the canada immigration in London for my work visa. As with accommodation we arranged this privately before we came out, although I believe calgary health region do have people for you to contact re accommodation. As with the Exam I don;t think there is a time limit, they certainly do not force you into taking it if you are not ready as they want you to pass. Hope things work out well for you, its certainly an experience and an eye opener, and you will meet many obsticles along the way. good luck
  13. :icon_rollI did mean to say the CRNE exam and not Carna. Fradulant slip on my part. I have been made eligible to sit the exam, sat it once and failed and now waiting to sit it again this year and keeping fingers crossed.
  14. Hi I did the P2000 and graduated in 1997. I am now living and working in Calgary, I did not have any problems with my application for work permits or LMO's. Calgary health region was only too pleased to offer me a job. It took us 6 months from start to finish to get here, and loving every minute. I am having to work as a Grad nurse until I pass the Carna exam, and have encountered a few problems over here with pay etc, but thats all now sorted. I hope you find a solution to your problems and I am sure you will find one, do not dispair. Everything will all be worth it in the end PS- does any one know if there are any course's in Calgary that will prepare you for the Carna Exam?
  15. congratulations to you on passing, unforunately for me I failed 3rd time after computer shut off on 95 questions. wish you all the best in the future
