advice from former nursing instructor

Published

I will be transferring to a different nursing school/program. I wanted to get my former instructor to fill out a Recommendation for Nursing Prog form for me for this other school.

She told me she has hesitations/reservations on me going thur program. My grades were good. The only problems i had was in 2 classes where I waited to long to drop a nursing class and did not pass it while the other class i did fine on PHysical assessment theory part but not lab/exam on body and did not pass that. We only had one chance to pass lab section to pass entire course. How about others out there, did you have more than one opportunity to pass lab section of Phy. Assessment course.

The nursing instructor thought i was too nervous. I get kind of nervous when people watch me demonstrate which i am sure i can change. Is this normal? At the time i was looking for a job (out of work for more than 2 years) and i think that greatly affected me, stressed me. Since then i have found a job in healthcare and i am doing fine.

Any suggestions? Should i ignore what this instructor said. I don't see how she could say that about me when she only saw me once a week in a lecture class.

Thanks

It's your instructor job to evaluate your performance within the amount of credit hours she is assigned with you. Therefore, you should not ignore her evaluation of your performance because it was likely to be accurate.

Why are you changing programs anyway? Did you check if they'll accept the credits you earned from your current institution? I'm sorry to say that your two failures are what's making it difficult for your instructor to give you a recommendation.

I suggest reflecting upon your intentions for the future and why you want to become a nurse. I understand that we all need money to live but you have to prioritize between your studies and your financial situation. Nursing school is not easy and having a job or other forms of distractions will affect outcomes of your goals.

Dilemma: STUDY FOR THE FUTURE vs. DIVIDED ATTENTION AND RISK FOR FAILURE

Most of my credits transfer. I was accepted to Maryville University in St Louis, but i will be on waiting list for clinical. I am not working fulltime, just PRN ( as needed) according to my schedule. I don't really need money but at same time i am getting much needed experience. I was out of the work force for a long time and school too so coming back after a long time affected my performance at this one particular school. Before I begin the nursing program i will begin this summer for 6 months working on diploma to become a pt care tech (includes phelebt and ekg skills) which will help me a lot in future. It is thur a health career college before i start nursing.
