  1. Hello I am trying to get into BSN program in St. Louis. I was not accepted at Barnes-Jewish nor St. Louis Univ. I am way down on list at Maryville Univ even though i was accepted into the University. Last semester I got two non passing grades, one in a nursing class. I was going thur some depression, etc. Things are much better for me now. In the meantime I have started at Patient Care Tech program in St. Louis and will have my diploma in Jan 07. I am making all A's. I will also be taking a chemistry course and anat. course (it has been more thatn 5 yrs since i have had either). I have applied to a community college where waiting list is at least 2 yrs. Does anyone think these courses/and good grades i am making will help me get into an BSN program. Barnes Jewish said they would consider my application once i received an Associate in Nursing. I just wanted to talk with someone on this. Thank you. Carla;)
  2. I wanted to get some suggestions on nursing programs other than UMSL, Barnes-Jewish and Lutheran school nursing in ST louis. I was at UMSL but unfort i had 2 classes i did not pass and this kept me from applying from Barnes-Jewish. Does anyone have any idea on what wait list for St Louis CC and St Charles CC for nursing program? Would it be more advantagous for me to start at LPN program somewhere? I am one who believes if you want something bad enough you can do it. Thank you
  3. Most of my credits transfer. I was accepted to Maryville University in St Louis, but i will be on waiting list for clinical. I am not working fulltime, just PRN ( as needed) according to my schedule. I don't really need money but at same time i am getting much needed experience. I was out of the work force for a long time and school too so coming back after a long time affected my performance at this one particular school. Before I begin the nursing program i will begin this summer for 6 months working on diploma to become a pt care tech (includes phelebt and ekg skills) which will help me a lot in future. It is thur a health career college before i start nursing.
  4. I will be transferring to a different nursing school/program. I wanted to get my former instructor to fill out a Recommendation for Nursing Prog form for me for this other school. She told me she has hesitations/reservations on me going thur program. My grades were good. The only problems i had was in 2 classes where I waited to long to drop a nursing class and did not pass it while the other class i did fine on PHysical assessment theory part but not lab/exam on body and did not pass that. We only had one chance to pass lab section to pass entire course. How about others out there, did you have more than one opportunity to pass lab section of Phy. Assessment course. The nursing instructor thought i was too nervous. I get kind of nervous when people watch me demonstrate which i am sure i can change. Is this normal? At the time i was looking for a job (out of work for more than 2 years) and i think that greatly affected me, stressed me. Since then i have found a job in healthcare and i am doing fine. Any suggestions? Should i ignore what this instructor said. I don't see how she could say that about me when she only saw me once a week in a lecture class. Thanks
  5. Hello Up until this past spring semester i was attending a nursing program/BS level. Unfort. i received 2 non passing grades. First course i waited too long to drop course. The 2nd course PHy Assessment i did not pass the final exam in lab but did fine in lecture, B average. Unfort one had to pass both sections of Assessment to pass course. I was not allowed to stay in program. I am looking at other programs in ST Louis area. The main reasons i did not do well in those classes (others i prev took, i got B's in) was because i was looking for a job (for over a year of being unemployed) and was very stressed out about that and that I got behind in studying and did not develop good study habits until it was too late. I still love nursing, always reading about nursing subjects and now i have found job as patient safety assistant in area hospital. I wanted to get other people's opinions on this situation. I was recently accepted into area nursing program but on waiting list for clinical.

I spoke to my instructor on this situation and she was very unyielding on this. She said nurses (i am far from being a nurse/first semester) are never supposed to get nervous and are supposed to be 100 percent perfect even in begiining. Is there something wrong at all with this statement. I am not sure at all about UMSL nursing program. My nursing instructor was totally unyielding on this situation and even beginning/first semester students are to be fast, not nervous at all and never make mistakes on this......I thought she doesn't believe in cirumstances and the fact i was doing fine otherwise. Has anyone else heard anything about UMSL nursing prg?

Despite the fact i was making high B in theory part of Physical ASsessment, i did not pass lab, therefore i flunked whole course with no chance of 2nd retake, etc. I am going to look at other nursing programs in St. Louis area. Does an F automatically disqualify one for getting into any program anywhere? I attended UMSL and there program is in great need for improvement in several areas. Thanks
  8. Hello I was doing well in my 2nd semester Physical assessment course until we had one and only exam Head to Toe system and flunked it. I did great, high B on written/lect portion of class though. Because of flunking lab, i flunk the entire semester without the chance of retrying lab practicum exam. At least with fundamentals you have more than one chance to pass the lab technique. Unfort this is phy assessment class. I wanted to get other students opinion on this and see how their school does it. Another student besides me flunked too and left crying. But i kept a positive attitude and did not let the instructor see my emotions. I felt i was prepared but my nerves overrode my memory and i left out some things. I really think UMSL nursing program sadly needs to look at some of their polices and procedures and how students are treated. Anyway i am planning to apply to other programs in ST louis area. Because of the F, will that totally eliminate me from getting into any nursing program in the area? Thanks.
  9. In my phy. assessment class, next week we are to do a head to toe assessment on our lab partner. Does anyone have suggestion on how to be very organized on doing this assessment or do you know of a good website on the subject? Thank you.
  10. Hello I too will be job shadowing this week at Barnes Hospital in St Louis in medical floor unit. I am really looking forward to it. I will be doing my first clincal this upcoming Jan semester. I am also looking for job either pt care or clerical. I have had some limited health care experience. I already have one BS degree in Health Education. Does anyone have some really questions i can ask besides the usual questions like # of staff, etc? I want them to be able to remember me. Thanks all.
