advice for ER interview please

Hi all! I have an ER interview next week & would appreciate any advice. My background: I worked on a very busy 36 bed transplant med/surg with stepdown unit for 2.5 yrs. I have experience as a charge nurse and preceptor. I am currently in school to be a Family Nurse Practioner & hoping that the ER will be an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience. I researched as much as I could about the facility and its a community teaching hospital with a 40,000+ visit/yr. ER. Does anyone have any practice questions for me that an ER RN manager would specifically ask? or any advice on how I should prepare? Thank you so much in advance!

Experience with ER consists of small town, small time hospitals in Texas and Florida. Then I went big-time: Trauma Center in the big town host of the "500" and "bike week". OH MY GOD, was that an experience. Loved it! Loved it! Highly recommend it however, you must have some experience under your belt.

I suggest honesty but also let your interviewer know you are eager to learn and excited about the fast-pace! Best of luck!

I still go there every spring for Bike Week. Out there in my leathers looking BAD. Having fun. Then its back to work, my scrubs, responsibility, golf all the usual stuff. But Im one of them old bikers out there having fun, partying, still get in a few fights, a few races, still showing off riding my bike. I cruise there and back from where Im at. Love the trip, love it there, Where Im at is so dang Republican. only good thing is all the golf courses right around me.

OP, she will ask you why you want to switch to ER, be honest. And she may give you scenarios and ask you how you would handle/prioritize them.

Questions you should ask: how long would the orientation be? Would you have a dedicated preceptor? (Since you have no ER experience you should be precepted for at least 4-6 weeks, if not longer.)
