Advice for ADN NS

OMG! I was once a pre-nursing student and have finished 1.5 semesters of an ADN program. I have been perusing so many posts about the horrors and failure rates of nursing school. If you want to survive it and make your dream of being an RN a reality then it is simple - STUDY! It's not rocket science or an MD we are pursuing here! Yes, it's hard! Yes, there is alot of paperwork! Yes, it is stressful! But it's not impossible! You have to adapt your life to being a nursing student and that requires alot of time, energy, sacrifice and little time for yourself. But it is a short time and is completely worth it. You have to want it. You have to have motivation and determination. You have to want to study. Only YOU can pass the class (hopefully you have a good support system) and only YOU can fail the class. No, teachers are not out to fail you! In spite of everything you might read, they truly want to see you succeed. They were once in our shoes and understand the demanding nature of NS. I know there are some nasty ones out there but you are in control of understanding the material (they DO give you a syllabus on day one detailing what is expected of you to master) and passing the tests. In the end, it is up to you. You get out of it what you put into it, bottom line.

So PLEASE, when it is your time to start YOUR dream, adopt a positive and proactive attitude, do not listen to the circulating rumors about evil teachers or high failure rate classes and buckle down and study. That is the secret, nothing less, nothing more. Nursing school is hard for many reasons but it is to make you a caring, compassionate and skilled nurse. When it is you with your patient, you will have to rely on your knowledge and skills to help them. NS is like on-the-job training - you must be prepared and ready to act.

We are all pursuing the dream of being a nurse to help people and I wanted to put this post out there to help those of you who are worried and think you can't do it - well you can. Believe in yourself and your abilities. Be confident.

And one last thing - enjoy it! It is ALOT of fun and there are so many new friends waiting to meet you! Hopefully, you meet life-long friends, I know I have. It is like a sisterhood, your classmates will be there to hug you when you are down and to congratulate you on your hard earned efforts. They will understand when no one else can.

If you think you can, you will

If you think you can't, you won't

Thanks for this post.... Very nice to hear encouraging words. I truly believe that whatever the task, a positive attitude is 99% of the battle!

That's why I have a positive attitude that this year is my year. I WILL make it into a program by golly... and if not, I'll try, try again next round LOL

Have a good night!

Thanks! btw, these days it's more than sisterhood :-) There are men now to consider

Thank you for the positive post! I've read some posts on here that have truly scared me, so I really appreciate reading this one.
