I need some serious help! I recently started graduate school and I am taking Advanced Health Assessment. My problem is that I am having trouble with my write-ups in the clinical portion of the class . I recently submitted a write-up on otitis media, thought I did pretty good. However, my grade does not reflect that. Are there any books that I can purchase on sample write-ups include the following;
Chief complaint, History of Present Illness, Past Medical Illness, Family History, Social History, Review of System. I want to become a family nurse practitioner, but I am beginning to think I am not FNP material. Please help. Are there any graduate students who can steer me in the right direction. I am just beginning and I think the instructor should realize that we are here to learn. Anything that you can do or say would really be much appreciated.

hello, tvb2a,:balloons:
i understand the need to get acclimated in the np mindset. my students use these:
bates' guide to physical examination & history taking (book with cd-rom + case studies)
current clinical strategies : pediatric history and physical examination
by: elizabeth k. albright, m.d.
there are others as well. good luck and yes, you will be a great fnp.

In addition to a physical examination book. I found that the book "Differential Diagnosis of Common Complaints" by Robert H. Seller was one of the most helpful books for me during graduate school (I just finished in August). It is a symptom-based book. So for example the patient has ear pain which could be OM but the book gets you to broaden your thinking in what else this could be. I highly recommend it.
Excellent, JACKMAC. That is a most excellent book. Thank you for adding that one!:balloons:

Another great book I find useful is DeGowin and DeGowin's Diagnostic examination, you can find that one in most med school bookstores. More information that you'll ever need!
