  1. I am taking adv. patho as well and need the n ame of a good book with symptoms at the cellular level, for example whta happens at the cellular level in diarrhea or weight loss. Any recommendations?
  2. I need some serious help! I recently started graduate school and I am taking Advanced Health Assessment. My problem is that I am having trouble with my write-ups in the clinical portion of the class . I recently submitted a write-up on otitis media, thought I did pretty good. However, my grade does not reflect that. Are there any books that I can purchase on sample write-ups include the following; Chief complaint, History of Present Illness, Past Medical Illness, Family History, Social History, Review of System. I want to become a family nurse practitioner, but I am beginning to think I am not FNP material. Please help. Are there any graduate students who can steer me in the right direction. I am just beginning and I think the instructor should realize that we are here to learn. Anything that you can do or say would really be much appreciated.

Hi NicMac: I am sorry to read about your disappointments. I hope you won't mind if I share my views. It seems to me that it is not the profession of nursing, but more so your place of employment. It seems that there are managerial problems there evidenced by many pts, no ancillary support when you need them and the scheduler controlling your schedule. I have been nursing for 6 years and when I first started I went from ICU, correctional nursing, psyche, adult med surg and now pediatrics. I can truly say that pediatric nursing is one of the best kept secrets. These kids have been such as blessing to me. The parents are sooooo appreciative for staff caring for their children. I actually look forward to going to work. I am able to make my own schedule and I could not have asked for a better manager. She is the greatest!!. You have so much to offer because you have educated yourself to help those in need. There are more options being a BSN nurse. Prior to nursing I was an xray and ultrasound technician and I must say that nursing has offered me more flexibility and autonomy than ever before. Someone mentioned about you're going on a vacation. I think this would be wise to do so. I know that our God will bless you with the peace and happiness you long for as well as place you in an area fit only for you. Peace, Good Luck and Best Wishes. :) :) :)
  4. Hopefully I can answer some of your questions . I am a licensed xray tech, ultrasound tech and registered nurse. I loved working in radiology, however it did not provide me with the flexibility that I so desired . Radiology offers lateral moves, whereas nursing offers much upward mobility and this is something that you really need to look at. As far as pay , I feel that you make more money as a nurse because of the perks and differentials included in pay, for example bedside or charge nurses may make an extra 1.00- 1.50/hr, shift differential an extra 4.00-5.00 per hour. I didn't get this kind of differential in pay as a rad tech or ultrasonographer. Also being an xray tech is a very physical job. There were many days when I suffered back pain from pushing those large portable units and heavy cassettes. Who wants to do that as an older adult? Nurses have much more autonomy also. I decided to go back to school because I began to get bored with radiology. While I miss xray and scanning at times, I am very glad that I chose nursing as a 3rd career. I have no regrets and it is such a good feeling knowing that I contributed towards nurturing someone back to a state of wellness. Good luck and Best wishes!!! :)
  5. Everyone gives such great advice regarding graduate school!!Please help. I will start a graduate online FNP program this fall. I plan on taking 2 courses---patho and theoretical foundations. Is this too much for starters. I will register in a few weeks and really need advice. Tulip, you mentioned you taught graduate school. Are 2 classes too much for starters or should I take one? I work full time, (2) 12 hour shifts Sat. & Sun. and work (1) 12 hour shift per pay period. Also what is a starting salary for a graduate FNP?
  6. I need information regarding grades in graduate school. Are "C"s acceptable in grad school, will they dismiss one from an FNP program for making one? I am considering taking 2 classes online this fall--Patho and Role Development. Is this too much for starters? Online classes give much more work in my opinion. I am wondering can I do it. Please help. I work a weekender position 12 hours every Sat. and Sun. I work 1 - 12 hour shift every other week. Any advice that any FNP graduate gives is welcomed and appreciated.
  7. ADN means Associate Degree in Nursing. Hope this helps. :)
  8. HOW MANY CLASSES DO YOU THINK IS A COMFORTABLE AMOUNT TO TAKE EACH SEMESTER? I WORK A WEEKENDER NURSING POSTION AND WILL REGISTER FOR 3 COURSES. PLEASE SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE OF TAKING PATHO AND ADVANCED PHARMACOLOGY. I REALLY FEAR THESE 2 COURSES MOST OF ALL. PLEASE SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE. I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH.
  9. I recently obtained my BSN and will start back in the fall for the MSN-FNP online. I am very scared as well. I guess this is a part of it, huh?
  10. I really need help from those who have completed their MSN-FNP. I will start school this fall taking 3 classes---Path, Role Development and Healthcare Policy. My questions are 1) Is this too much 2) Is patho. very difficult 3) I have heard that obtaining the MSN in FNP or Education is not as difficult as the 1st degree--ADN or diploma. What do you think? I desire to be an FNP more than you know. I work a weekender position and would also like to know if this is enough time to get everything done. Oh, by the way I will go to school online. I received my BSN in May taking online courses and this was the best experience. Thanks for any advice you are able to offer.
  11. I Am Preparing To Start Graduate School This Fall And Will Take 3 Classes--advanced Patho, Adv. Role Development, Health Care Policy. Any Advice On These 3 Courses. Should I Take 9 Hours For Starters? Please Help!!! I Am Nervous About Obtaining My Msn. Some Say The 1st Nursing Degree Is The Hardest. Any Advice Would Be Much Appreciated.
