Advance nursing career?

Published

I am currently employed as a visiting nurse in central mass which isn't too bad. I am in the process of obtaining my BSN for more job opportunities. Does anyone know where I can get added certificates and training to increase my chances of being able to move on?

Thanks es in advance.

Many certifications require experience in the specialty, as it is intended to be an indicator of expertise. At this point it would appear the only certification for you would be related to your home health experience. What kind of position are you looking to move into?

There are some 'certifications' intended to reflect educational qualifications or acquisition of specialty knowledge rather than your level of actual expertise. One of the hot ones right now is the NPSF's Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) credential. As you can see from the link, the eligibility criteria are pretty easy as long as you have your BSN.

Oddly enough, some clinical certifications - such as CEN (Emergency Nursing) are 'entry level'.... with no specific experience required. But I think that the CPPS certification would appeal to a much broader audience.
