ADN vs BSN Choices

I am currently finishing odd prereqs for an Adn Program i would like to start, if i do an extra semester at the community college (LCCC) and take a few extra prereqs I can apply for a BSN program at University of Wyoming (about 40 mins commute) I am in Cheyenne wy so my plan was to apply to the residency after I finish nursing school, (which you only need an ADN for) Then complete the rn to bsn program (Online) at University of Wyoming. Im essentially only looking at an extra semester (Fall 2016 start) Instead of Spring 2016 for the ADN. Is it worth it doing the extra time to get into the BSN program right away vs the ADN .

a little about me, 26, married expecting first child April 2015.

Either way is fine. If you can get accepted into a bsn program directly that is great. Not sure if your area is filled with competitive bsn programs.

Adn is a another alternative and is not as expensive as the bsn program.

Only you can answer that. Personally, I think it is worth it ... because so many people say that they are going go back to school for that BSN and then end up putting it off for one reason or another. They delay because life makes it difficult, and the longer they delay, the harder it is to actually go back to school. Years go by and they get bitter because they see the BSN folks getting more career opportunities. I have seen that happen too many times.

If the investment is not too much for you to do now ... do it. It will be hard for that last semester -- and at that moment, you may regret not taking what you will see as the shorter, easier route. But once that one extra semester is over, you'll be done and not have to face the stress later of disrupting your life (when you have your 2nd or 3rd child) to go back to school.

Thank you so much!

Thank you, and no there's not much competition out here which is great. We are from Bay area, CA and waiting lists were 3 yrs long.

I would do the BSN if it is affordable for you. (Just so you know, I got an ADN and am now getting my BSN online. I don't regret it, but I would really prefer to have those three letters on my resume. SO many of the job postings I see require it.)
