ADN nurses Los Angeles

Published

Hi. I am from NY and obtaining my ADN. I won't finish til 2017 and my plan is to move to LA or somewhere in southern California once I pass my NCLEX. Are ADN nurses being hired? how much can I expect to make with an ADN degree? (I do plan to obtain my BSN immediately after graduating via online)

I already work at a hospital and my sister is my manager she said she would not mind me picking up some patients while in school as long as she gets approval. But this would be considered medical assistant experience. I know a hospital here in NY offers nursing attendant jobs but it's for BSN students only unfortunately.

I agree with what everyone else is saying. I just graduated last week with my ADN and I live 60 miles east of Los Angeles and even out here it is really tough to get a job. The only reason why I can obtain a job more quickly is due to connections I made during clinical, networking in this area already and there is a transition program my school offers if I can't get any job on my own (work as an RN for 3 months/24 hours a week, no pay and with a high probability of a job at the end). I am also starting my BSN program in January and even though it's in progress a vast majority of hospitals in Southern California (yes I have applied to hospitals all over) will not hire me unless it's complete. Btw I have medical assistance experience too but that doesn't matter. I highly recommend you only coming out here unless you have a job lined up otherwise you will spend months to even a year looking for a job without any luck which will cost you thousands. Just work 2 years minimum as an RN, graduate with your BSN and after you will have no problem getting a job in any part of Southern CA.

Maybe it was just luck but pretty much everyone from my ADN program got hired at a hospital in LA. Some went into the county system, which you have to be patient with the hiring process but they only require a license and BLS. Others went into RN Residencies at private hospitals. Still others combed through openings at hospitals that did not require a year of experience (they do exist) and got in that way. I see a lot of posts in the CA thread about how bad it is here but I find there are opportunities. But the hiring process does take a bit of time.
