Admission denied to Mount Saint Marys ADN 2013 Spring

U.S.A. California

Recently I applied to Moung St Marys ADN program. I didn't get it :-( I did good on the TEAS test and had all but one of my pre-reqs done (I still need english 1C ). I am so sad because I practically considered myself in. When I called the school to find out why I was denied admission the main counselor told me that everything looked great but my gpa isn't high enough and I was off by a few points (2.65 I needed 2.75) and that I also need to take the English class I am missing. She said I can re-apply again in March after I Better my GPA and that i'll probably get in. I am so lost because since then I have been looking at other schools and have ran into so many dead ends. For example West Coast University is 134, 000$!!!! And American College of Health Sciences doesn't have accreditations. I am currently trying to add an English class at my local jc but because I am a returning student I get to enroll last and now all classes are taken! Any words of encouragement or advice?

To the OP, if you are still considering an ADN degree, apply to the public community colleges. Tuition is around $500-700 per semester, depending on where you go. Usually, the GPA cutoff is 2.5 and candidates are selected by a random draw (though some schools do rank on points instead).

I get that a BSN is preferred, especially at magnet status hospitals, but some hospitals are still hiring ADNs (I go to the school run by the Department of Health Services and our graduates do get hired at LAC+USC with ADN degrees). If you have an ADN and you are in an ADN to BSN program, that will also weigh favorably at many hospitals. Connections in a hospital have also been cited as one of the biggest factors in landing a job out of any program. So there are a lot of variables at play. The recommendation that the BSN should be the entry level degree has gone on for 30 years and ADN degree holders have continued to find jobs. Just throwing another perspective out there.

a Bsn is worth much more in its weight in gold now adays.. The process is acutally VERY Fast, but i hear it varies from campus to campus, i went through the Orange County Campus. Im not quite sure about the raising of the prices, ive heard one ot two people say that but i dont know to what degree its accurate, im sure they raise it less than the Cal States (they raise theirs like every year 7% or something rediculous) Yes with the intrest is gonna cost me around 100k but i plan to refinance after school to get a better rate and maybe even pay extra so i can pay it off.. The Financial Aid is very straight forward acutally they pretty much do everything for you, as of now i qualify for 45K in FInancial Aid and another 45 k in private loans which i am approved for. They break everything down to the T in Financial aid and explain everything quite well.. i was acutally pretty satisfied with the financial aid.. Now my projected costs are about 100k right now, but I am still taking a few classes that i am going to transfer (about 5) so that cost is going to go down quite a bit (not sure how much exactly my guess is down to about 70-80k.. I took the TEAS Test earlier this year so i submitted that score, they accepted it. (i scored a 70.7%) i heard the HESI is easier. let me know if you have any more questions! i like helping out!
Once again thank you for answering all my questions regarding WCU it was really helpful. Im keeping my options open and all your advice has helped a lot
