Admirable qualities

All of the above...whether they are prominent qualities or not, are needed, I think... I dont think anyone posesses all of them, but hopefully like you said, they can admit and work with their areas of weakness

All of the above. Moral courage is a real biggy to me.

I think everything you mentioned is important. Also, and you can shoot this idea down if you want because I am just a lowly nursing student at this point, but I think being a "team player" is a very good quality too. I know the term "team player" may sound really cheesy but I have worked in places where there was a true sense of team work and each person was a team player. And with that kind of group attitude really, you can accomplish just about anything.

Way more than that! I would rather be down one nurse than to have one with lowered morals, inadequate skills, or attitude. A high regard for patient safety is something we all have to have. Some have the knack, love, and desire required to be a nurse....the rest just "show up".

No one really talks about it, or is willing to admit it but LOVE is a key/essential part of nursing. Love can not even be taught or learned yet we have an awareness to it. In a category all it's own is Love, like time or matter/energy.

respect, ability, safety, maturity, kinesthetic awareness, but love!

actually bothering to try to understand what it is like for the people under your care on a regular basis ...this gets overlooked far too often!

if you've been ill yourself or have been with a loved one in the hospital, reflect on that when someone is driving you crazy, understand the reason for their insanity sometimes, and although you need to set limits, try to do the best you can...

Colleen, I'm like you and only a nursing student, but I DEFINITELY feel that team work comes into play. I will have no problem doing my share PLUS what needs to be done. It is amazing how much quicker and better things can get done when people work together. I think that is one thing I like about the ER, there seems to be more of a team effort.
