Adelphi or St. Vincent's??

Published

Please help me make up my mind: I'm trying to decide between 2 schools: Adelphi (in the fall) for the BSN or St. Vincent's-Queens (Spring 2009) for the ASN. I'm still waiting to hear from Adelphi (I'm pretty sure I did very well on the NET exam), but I'm trying to make up my mind whether to start at Adelphi in the fall (with the large tuition rate) or attempt to get in at St. Vincent's (Queens) for the spring term & have less accumulated debt. Would it be worth it to start with Adelphi right away or wait & apply to St. Vincent's? Is it very tough to get into St. Vincent's program? I don't want to waste too much time since I'm not getting any younger.

I know many people who are at Adelphi which is why I say go to St. Vincent's I've only heard positives about that school.

Good Luck with whichever you choose.

I would choose St Vincents. Excellent school....Less expense. My mother graduated from there but I thought they only started in September.

I'm curious: Did they like their experience at Adelphi or not? I've heard positive things about both schools, which is part of the reason it's so tough to decide.

Adelphi is a GREAT school but I know several people who go there & none of them have had anything positive to say. There main beef is that they believe that administration wants them to fail. Ex: The ATI exam at Adelphi is worth 10% of your grade so if you have a B average going into the ATI y& you do not do well on it you can fail the class, it's that & a whole bunch of other things, this can be very frustrateing when your paying a HUGE chunk of change for their program. Per students--it's one hurdle after the next.

On the other hand I know a few students who went to St. Vincents in queens. Only positive things were said, about the school as a whole--I have yet to hear anything negative from these graduates.

What I've stated abve is not the "golden rule". Everyone's experience is differnet. There may be an Adelphi student or St. Vincent student who may refute my statements. I'm just letting the OP know what my friends experiences were.

Thank you so much for the info.! I'd feel crushed if my entire GPA was affected by one single test!! I can't believe a school like Adelphi would require its students to go through so many hurdles & make them in debt. I prefer a more supportive environment or at least one with more reasonable "hoops." I'm leaning towards St. Vincent's now; maybe it is worth the effort/wait. Now I'm curious: What kind of test is the "ATI" & why is it worth so much??

Every school has it's hurdles. I too have to take the ATI exam but it's worth 2 to 3% of our grade & there's remediation if you fail. St. Vincent may have it's own assessment exams as well, it's just basically all part of the process. The key is to make it through nursing school. Every school has it's negatives & positives.

Good Luck!

Does anyone know how long Adelphi's new LPN to BSN program last for?

I am currently attending Adelphi and I do not believe that the school has an LPN to

BSN bridge program. I know of an RN to BSN and a generic BSN program. Good luck

I heard the same thing that Wsmith16 mention. You also have to weigh everything out. Aldephi is a BSN, but its for 2 1/2 yrs. The other is a ADN but only 2 yrs. I'm only going to be in school for 16 months to get a ADN, I already feel that I can't go longer than that. 2 1/2 yrs is a long time and alot of money.

Adelphi's program is can be completed in 2 years instead 3 1/2 if the student attend classes for the 2 sessions in the summer (1 class each), but it is expensive. Keep in mind that each person's experience is unique. You will have to decide what works for you. Good luck
