ADD and social anxiety need advice

Published

I am wanting to become a nurse but I have issues with social anxiety and ADD. I am so worried I won't be able to do the job due to my lack of focus, organization and social anxiety. Can anyone give me hope or should I consider a different career?

Thank you

Hello, how did your son do with medicine-i heard from other parents it takes their personality away,is it true? Also do you think ADD or ADHD is over diagnosed??

Hi Jewelspassion,

Well with my son, I did see a personality change. He is more poised; and he is not out of control& socially inappropriate before he got on the medication. So that is a good thing for us. He is 7 years old. He is still developing and my parenting style has helped us deal with his disorder.

Do I think the disorder is over Dx. I do not think so. Psych disorders are just as real and need to be addressed as well. What is the use to having a body that is not in sync with your mind and soul? I support all Dx. of this disorder. I am so glad I got the treatment now and that is all that matters.

I'm new to this site and am so glad I found it, especially this "nurses with disabilities" sec.

I was just diagnosed with ADHD with an Rx coming. I was just accepted into the nursing program at my university. The entrance is contingent upon passing the background check, get vaccinated, etc. As part of my physical check I had a mental eval. and that's when I was diagnosed. I was freaking out that I might be excluded from the program because of my dx and being prescribed a control substance for it.

I read some of the posts and it was like reading my own experience. I'm so glad that I'm not alone !!!

I don't want to take any meds though, anyone have any ideas on alternate vitamins or some other (over-the-counter) stuff? Though my Dr. really wants me to try the meds, and if they don't work then try other ones. I'm supposed to go back for a follow-on visit, amd I don't know what to do.

Having ADHD, I guess, has helped me in my English classes with my "creative writting" ideas and in some of my chaotic multi-tasking abilities.
