AD RN to CNM

Published

Hi all. I'm a military medic, gone AD RN, wishing to be a CNM. I'm wondering what the quickest way and best way to get from AD RN to CNM. Any advice would be super appreciated! Thank you!

Do an online RN-BSN program, which you should be able to finish in less than a year, then apply to a midwifery program.

There are direct entry RN-MSN programs that bypass the BSN, but in my experience, they're not any faster, and because sometimes life gets in the way, it's a good idea to do a program that grants a BSN.

I suggest going the RN to BSN route. I researched the RN to MSN and most of the program's take the same amount of time. So getting a BSN seemed to make more sense. Lots of great online programs out there. I did Universty Texas Arlington. Totally doable while working full time.

I will "third" that sentiment. I am working on my ADN now and plan to get attend an online RN to BSN prior to applying for midwifery school (probably Frontier). I have 2 kids so I can almost guarantee life will get in the way and I rather be safe than sorry!

I did my BSN and MSN online (through WGU), then went to a program that offered a post-masters CNM cert. I did it that way because I was able to get my MSN done very quickly through WGU, while working full time, and then be better able to balance work and kids with the CNM part of it.

But in your case, I would definitely get your BSN then enroll in an MSN program, as opposed to an ADN-MSN bridge. More flexibility for work, and more options in terms of CNM programs. I was very happy with my experience at WGU, was able to finish my BSN extremely quickly since they allow you to take as many classes as you want each term- very good for self-motivated learners.

Hi! I am currently enrolled at WGU and planning on the same path as you. Trying to get transferred to the RN-MSN program mid-term right now. Can I ask what school you ended up going to for your post-master's in CNM? I live in Colorado and have considered CU Denver but I'm not sure they'll accept WGU's grading system.

Sorry, my post was supposed to be a reply to yours....
