Acute Care PNP role

Published

Hello

I am thinking about doing a post-masters in acute care pediatrics. Anyone who frequents this forum in this specialization?

What are the job prospects/demand like for this role? What is the schedule like? Is it just as demanding as an RN-nights/weekends? What the job responsibilities?

How competitive is it without experience to get jobs in this field?

How is the pay compared to outpatient?

I ask because if I go back to do this it could cost anywhere from 50k-80K for me. And really want to know if its a good ROI. I love the NP role, but I am bored working in the outpatient setting.

TIA!

Most reputable acute PNP programs are going to require pediatric critical care experience before you're accepted. As far as ROI, that's going to vary greatly by geographical region.

80K seems like a lot for a post-masters. Are you currently a primary care NP?

Yes :) Well I am looking into private schools as where I live there aren't any at the state schools :( I know its expensive, and wanted to know what the job market was like and pay was for an acute care vs primary care and if I could justify the costs.

Thanks! The experience I was talking about was actually Acute Care PNP positions, as do they hire new grads without acute care PNP experience? (aside from RN experience) :)
