Active Military Nursing?

Published

Hi all,

I am currently a BSN student going into my senior year in the Fall. I have been very interested in Active Military Nursing for quite some time. I want to know if anyone would be able to tell me about the process from graduating and taking NCLEX to fully getting involved with the military and their honest experiences throughout. Also, do you have to have experience before serving or can I enter after I pass the NCLEX?

Thank you!

You will need to contact a healthcare recruiter for each service to see what their requirements are. They can be contacted through the services recruiting website under officer or medical. Do not talk with the local street front recruiter, they are enlisted recruiters not officer recruiters. If you talk with a recruiter and they talk about taking a ASVAB test run away from them as fast as you can because they are trying to have you enlist vs. commission.

We are still getting new grad nurses without experience who didn't do ROTC at my base. Therefore, I assume that you are eligible to apply to the Air Force. It may be competitive, but you do have a good shot if your grades are in the 3.7+ range.

Know that graduating in the fall puts you out of cycle, as there is only one application cycle (summer) each year for new grads. You will likely have to graduate and work for a while or wait around for 6 months.
