I'm currently examining my options as well. I have a BA already, but am considering a career change. I'm not sure about how to go about finding avenues that will pay for it, but good luck!
In terms of paying for school, I researched hospitals in the area I wanted to practice in, and made some contacts. One of the local hospitals will pay for school up to $5,000, including books. You have to agree to work for 1 year for them for each year (or portion thereof) that they pay for. I understand that there are similar (and sometimes better) programs in other places.
Have you thought about PA school? If you were on a medicine track, that might be more in line with what you originally were planning. A friend of mine had poor MCAT scores and wasn't getting in to med school, and he decided to go to PA school instead.
I agree and PA track would allow u to skip a couple of steps...Most PA programs will give u a masters degree as opposed to getting a BSN then a MSN/NP
So I am graduating in Spring 2009 with a BA in Biology. I was headed for the Medical School track but felt that it was too demanding and would not allow me to pursue everything I want in life. Anyways I was wondering about Accelerated BSN programs. I understand they are fast paced and hard work, but i think I can handle it. I just do not know where to start! I was hoping to find one that is either paid for if I work in the area after graduation for a few years or find a way for it to be paid for through a contract of working for the hospital afterwards. Yet, I'm struggling to find such programs or how to look for them. I know they are out there! I found on at University of Arizona but I would have to take a year off before applying... are there other programs or ways to find a hospital or company that is will to pay for my educationTHANKS!
Check out Minnesota State University Mankato at http://ahn.mnsu.edu/nursing/undergraduate/accelerated/ . At least 2 of my classmates in the accelerated program were premed/PA who changed their direction. (I was interested in becoming a PA but decided to pursue nursing.) I plan on entering grad school for NP next year.
i recommend you work toward PA that would be a good route for you if you were thinking about becoming a doctor. PA pays better than nursing too, they make almost as much as doctors, and they don't have to deal with as many legal issues. However the decision is entirely yours, i hear PA is still hard too...
