U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hey everyone,

I am so happy to say that I finally got into nursing school, :) yes its *only* LPN but I'm one of those unlucky ones who have to work while going to school haha and it fits in better with my work schedule and finances. Just wanted to know if anyone else has been accepted to this program or graduated from this program and what should I expect from it?

Congratulations! I have been accepted to the Assabet Tech LPN program in the Fall & I heard it's a tough program being full time 7:30 to 2:30 everyday but I'm sure we will do great.

Congrats!!!!! It's def. a great accomplishment to be accepted into their program cause you have to not only take their 4 hr entrance exam, but also pretty much battle it out with your scores and interview among the other participants. There aren't that many seats and you got in!

I heard it's a tough 10 months, but I'm sure you'll do well if you work really hard. :) How was your interview process? What areas did they focus on in the math and english test?

I was wondering if anyone could help me, 'll give you a little bit of background.

I took a year off of college before i started and then after that i started to go to my local community college taking prereqs for nursing and i didn't do so good in my math classes but i took Biology and got an A- and i am going to start taking a spanish class and anatomy and physiology and i am going to work hard and get good grades from here on out and i just started working as a cna i have experience working with someone with muscular dystrophy which was my brother and he passed away a year ago and i was thinking of writing about that in my admissions essay because that really is a big reason why i want to be a nurse. So i thought maybe that experience along with being a cna and learning spanish might help my chances of getting accepted because i do have a poor gpa as of right now it is 2.84 but i am planning on bringing it up and in a year and a half i will have my associates from my community college. I don't know what else i can do to help my chances. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Buy the NLN pre entrance exam book and make sure you study off of it to prepare for your exam. There are 3 exam schedules check the site for official dates. You will have to choose 1 to attend and be on time. It is a 4 hour long exam. Make sure you study and get plenty of rest before your exam and just try your best. You will get a letter stating your scores, and you might not understand how to read it, but the school will send you a letter if your scores are met to be a potential student for the LPN program. If you make it past the pre-entrance exam and qualify for the second phase, you will take another short math test, a reading and comprehension test, write an essay, and complete an interview on site. If you fit the school's criteria, they will officially notify you for acceptance into the program. To get more information about the program, I suggest you visit the school's site or make an appointment to go in and ask any questions you may have. Just be honest and your reason for going into nursing is good. There's nothing wrong with your motivation. There isn't a "right" answer to help your chances when it comes to your motivation or reason to want to be a nurse, but as I've stated above, studying for the exam definetly will help your scores. Remember, everybody has their own reasons and motivations to become a nurse. Just be yourself and take it as it comes. You might just surprise yourself in the end. :) Good luck!

I graduated from the Shawsheen LPN program in 2009. I am still very close with the teacher's of the program. I think the program is great! it was very hard compared to other LPN schools but you come out learning so much. I also did this program because I have to work while going to school due to financial reasons. It is a great program and it is a great stepping stone to getting into an RN program after as well. There's not many LPN positions so I would obviously urge you to get into an RN program if you can. Or atleast go get your RN soon after! I am working on getting into Salem State's LPN to RN program after I finish all my prereqs.

Best of all, Shawsheen just built a brand spankin new MULTI MILLION DOLLAR LPN/Medical wing!!! I went to the ribbon cutting celebration... it's AMAZING! they are also using Sim man dolls like a lot of RN schools now :)

That's good, at least you liked it.

@ nick0676 Hi i'm really interested in getting into assabet LPN program, pls hav a few questions : did you buy the NLN study guide? is it the one assabet is selling? do the pre entrance exam questions looks like the placement test in a community college? does it help if i did a nursins assistant training ? is there any waiting list ? do u REALLY get into the LPN program or need to do some prerequisites like in community college? is it really 10 months period ????

Please help me out ....

@Vitiana - Yes it really is a 10 month program, very very fast paced. You need to take the TEAS test at Assabet, not really sure what community colleges need. You do not need to take any pre-req's but if you took A&P 1 & 2, nutrition or life span psych, you could opt out at Assabet. It just lightens your course work & give you more study or skills practice time. We have an information session coming up on December 15th from 9am to 11 am where you come in & we as students tell you a bit about the program & you get to see our lab & we demonstrate skills. if you are interested in the info session, you can sigh up online @ Assabettech.com. I hope this helps, BTW I am loving the program.

I need yours please, how much does it cost? pls sell it to me or give me i will do copies...do i need to fill out an application before i take the TEAS test or not? i can not be vailable to come in and take the dec 3rd entrance test and the dates after are stated like snow dates i dont wanna register for the test and then come a big storm in which i cant drive in..... pls help me out for teas guide i will appreciate !!!! happy thanksgiving !!!!! can i have the list of book of the first term too? just to get a look of how it will look like thkx !!! xoxo
