Accepted into the program with no medical background..

Published

I am very excited about starting the ADN program in January, but I am extremely nervous. I have met many of the people who are starting the program with me, and they all have some sort of medical background. I feel as if I am the only one who has never had a job or previous experience in a medical field. This really intimidates me. Anyone else out there going through a similar thing? I feel alone! Lol :)

I'm in the same boat.. No experience and start school in march. I'm going to try to volunteer between now and the start date as well as study medical terms. Also I will try getting ahold of my first books to start reading. Anyone have any advice? I'm looking forward to the program teaching me everything I need to know to get started. Good luck!

Everyone feels that way at first: you need to learn new language. Unleaa you were a PA,MD,PT,Pharm before nursing school, the assessment and language will be all new for you.

Reading ahead may help or confuse you. If you wait till school starts they will teach you what "a 54yom c pmhx of HTN, DMII, and CAD s/p CABG p/w sx of angina and DOE" means in a few short weeks.

I'm starting my program in January with no health care background either. Obviously I'm nervous because it's a huge change and we'll have to learn a whole new set of language. But for some reason I'm not intimidated by others with medical background. They might have an advantage but that really doesn't have anything to do with how I will perform.
