Accepted into Molloy's nursing program for Fall2017

Published

Hello guys, I will begin the regular undergraduate BSN program at Molloy starting Fall 2107. During advisement I was told the program would take 2 1/2 years but now my friend who is in the program told me that it will take 3. The first semester requires a total of five classes which is a pretty heavy load. I had taken pathophysiology at the school I am currently at since it was open to other majors, not just nursing. However, I am now worried that Molloy will not accept that Patho class which means I will have to take 5 classes in the fall instead of 4. I do not want to take fewer in the Fall or else that will push me back another semester. It sucks because I would not even be able to make up the class during the summer since I am not in the dual degree program. I do however have a degree in psychology but did not apply to the dual. I am now very worried and do not want to waste any more time.

You should look into Stony Brook, they are a Suny school where tuition is less than 9k per year. Additionally they have a one year and two year program. Molloy costs a little under 30k a year. Furthermore Stony Brook has some of the highest Nclex passing ratings in the nation.

I just graduated from Molloy after going through the full 4 year program and it was honestly the best decision I ever made in my life. I wanted to go to Stony Brook but after looking into how their program is set up I quickly decided against it. They require 2 years of pre-rec's before you can even apply to the nursing program which is another 2 years and they only accept 11% of applicants. Also, you get what you pay for with Molloy. They're student resources are incomparable!!! It's the #1 nuring school in the country and LI hospitals LOVE Molloy students. I had a nurse manager tell me they would take a Molloy nurse with a lower GPA over the valedictorian from any other program. I had several job offers before even graduating and I passed the NCLEX in 75. In the grand scheme of things, you're better off going to Molloy and taking the time (wether it be 2.5 years or 3...) because the extra time will put you SO much further ahead. Lastly, if you were already accepted... TAKE IT. I've heard the program has gotten exceptionally more exclusive even since I started which is very hard to believe!

First off congratulations on officially becoming a a registered nurse. Can I ask how much you spent on your education over the course of the 4 years at Molloy? I would estimate over 100k, but I will leave that for you to tell truthfully since you graduated from their. This is not a better than the other situation, their are many factors that play into deciding which nursing school is best for you. We all are proud of our accomplishments and rightfully so. All I can state are the facts, Stony Brook has one of the highest nclex passing rates in the country. Here is the link http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/nurse/nurseprogs-nclexrn2013-17.htm. The proof is in the evidence based practice facts. You can state that one school is better than the other but please provide facts besides your subjective information. I too have offers from almost every Northwell hospital on LI, Stony Brook University Hospital, Mather, LISVH. Additionally, its funny because the valor program which is a Veteran Affairs internship program during the summer is extremely competitive, year after year Stony Brook students get the internships over all other nursing school students. This must say something about how well prepared we are into entering the nursing world and how well rounded we are. So you can give your subjective data all day, but it does not mean it is truthful. We are supposed to be helping her make one of the biggest decisions of her life in this post. You sound like a Molly recruiter who is only interested in bringing the college in money. Lets keep this post about informing the student with real information so she can make the best decision for her.
