Accepted! GHSU 2012

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello! This past Saturday I received my acceptance letter to Georgia Health Sciences University (Augusta Campus) woohoo! Although I am filled with excitement, I have so many questions and concerns which is why I decided to create this thread. I was hoping I could get some insight from alumni and current students about the nursing program (how are you liking it?), living (where is the best place to live?), and Augusta in general (how is it? how are the people?). Also, I'm hoping to meet and speak to other students who have been accepted into the program as well!

Congratulations to everyone on your acceptances into nursing school and I hope I can get some advice!

Thank you! :nurse:

Hey everyone! I am so happy to have found this :) I have also been accepted to the BSN program in Augusta for this summer! I am so excited about it and not considering any other schools. I too have heard great things about GHSU so I can't wait to start. I also agree that the staff there is so friendly and always nice about answering all my questions. I am hoping to make it to the open house to meet everyone and also check out Augusta since I have never been!

Congratulations beccah! Where did you complete your prereqs?

Have any of you started looking into housing? I'm leaning towards living on campus since I've never been to Augusta and I hear you need to be really careful when finding a place off campus since it can be a little unsafe. Have any of you heard of some nice apartments off campus or anything about the dorms, like which ones are nicer, etc?

thanks ani123 and congrats to you too! I finished my prereqs at Miami Dade College. I have also looked into housing and I'm leaning towards on-campus housing as well. I rather wait until I get a feel for Augusta before deciding where to live off-campus. But I haven't heard anything about how the on-campus housing is so I'm curious to see.

I agree, I think once I actually move to Augusta and become more comfortable with the area, I'll have a better idea of off-campus living and may consider it for another semester. I've tried looking at the map to get a feel for the on-campus housing and see which one would be most convenient but there's only so much I can figure out looking at a map lol.

Hey yall I would love for anyone else that is planning on going to the BSN program at Augusta to add me on facebook so that I could get to know some of the other people going. My name is Kayla Baker and I am currently attending GCSU so you will see that on my profile.

Um, the on campus housing is not very nice. I have seen Residence 4 and it is really old. You have a small shower (no tub), and there are roaches crawling outside the residence. They have a community kitchen on the 3rd floor. I visited someone there one weekend and it smelled really bad, they have huge trash cans in tha hall for residents to throw out their trash. The bad part about that is the trash is not emptied on weekends so it smelled really bad. You have to pay $300 a year to park and you can only park in residence parking. I have never seen the Alumni Center but I heard it is really small. Um, I have seen Residence V and it looked okay, you actually have a kitchen, living room etc and its looks like a real apartment. I have also seen residece VI and its okay. I think the people who live in residence VI have to pay utilites (those living in Res 4, Alumni Center, Res V dont pay utilities).

As far as apartments, you want to live somewhere safe. The crime rate is high in Augusta and I would NOT live anywhere near the school. Nice apartments include: The Estates at Perimeter, Brigham Woods (these are brand new), The Parc at Flowing Wells (these are new, gated, etc), Century Glen (this would be my last choice). Several students in my program got together and rented a house/apartment together. Parking is $300/year. We park in the "Laney Walker Lot" and a shuttle bus picks us up and takes us to the campus. Laney Walker is walking distance but there is a shuttle that comes every 10-15 minutes.. Most of the parking near the actual buildings are reserved and cost more that $300. Sorry for all my grammar errors!

Hey sharzaejones, I apologize for the delay, but thanks so much for the advice!
