Hi! I decided to go back to school and pursue my ADN, I am 27 years old. I went to college right out of high school which didnt amount to much at all and I have since moved. Only my English & Public Speaking transferred. I submitted my application and took the required tests to get put on the waiting lists while I got my pre-req out of the way. OK, so the thing is, which I was not expecting AT ALL, was I got accepted and I have no pre-req behind me. So, I am to start this fall in the ADN program! I am really excited and scared!!! Can this be done???? Most everyone I know has most pre-req done before they start the actual nursing program. I registered today for this summer and I am taking my Math, A&P1, and Psy. Hoping that will help in the fall. Any suggestions or advice or am I worrying for nothing?????? Thanks!!!!

Jasmine,
Usually, the RN/ADN programs do not even allow you to be put on the waiting lists until your pre-reqs are complete. Have you completed Anatomy, Phsiology, or Microbiology??? I cannot see you bein able to take these classes along with the nursing program. The whole purpose of pre-reqs anyway is that they are required to be taken BEFORE the program, so I dont know how you got accepted. I would definitely talk to an advisor or someone in the program about this.
I am ending my first semester as an RN student, so if there is anything else I can help you with, let me know. Take care and best of luck!

yes it will help out!! imo psych, stats and one a&p are probably about all anyone can handle in the short summer(9-10 weeks). especially if you're talking about statistics for the math course. so anything you can take during this summer and the next do it. it will make your life easier, especially during pathophysiology.
only you truly know your capabilities. that's one thing to concentrate on. look at the co-req's and pre-req's for your first years classes. are they some subjects that you think you can do well at and at the same time pass your nursing classes with an acceptable grade (acceptable to you and your program).
i was offered an early admit a semester before i had been accepted for. i knew i still had micro, a&pii, pharmacology and math for nurses left. i chose to keep my original admit date. i could have handled a lab science in the first semester of fundamentals, i wouldn't have made it through micro and the patho i'm taking now, which is where i'd be due to the co-req/pre-req rules at my school. but i'm old tired and run the family farm too.
only you know what else is going on in your life, and what you can handle!! good luck!!

Our school won't allow you to start the nursing program unless your pre reqs are done. When I was moving to where I am now, I heard the wait lists were very long and the way things were back than I was able to get on the waitlist for 3 colleges. So I applied. At the time you didn't have to have Micro done to get on the list, but needed it before I could start. Well I planned on waiting a year to even take it so I could be considered a resident on tuition. So anyway, low and behold I got accepted right away but I had to defer because I wouldn't have been able to have Micro done in time. That school has pretty much no wait because it's out in the middle of no where and I got accepted again the next year, I decided to just hold off though for my local college that is a 10 min. commute and not a 1.5 hour commute each way. I start this fall.
So anyway, getting accepted is usually contingent that you have met all these other requirements so you might want to make sure on that. If this is the case at least you know the wait isn't very long at your school.

My school just started a separate wait list for students that already have a Bachelors degree. They are able to get on the waitlist and work on prereqs while waiting. They still have to have them complete before starting NS but usually the acceptance is contingent so although they do get an acceptance letter they have to defer since they have not met the requirements yet. This may be the case with her since she said she had alreayd went to college before.
