Accepted into CCC Nursing Program: Truman College

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi all! I've started this thread for those of us who have gotten the good news and have been accepted to start the nursing program at Truman College in Fall 2012!

If you are still waiting to hear, I would suggest visiting the other thread I started for some helpful information, tips, and support!

Here's what I know so far:

  • There WILL be clinicals in the first semester (6 hours)
  • The classes will be scheduled via a lottery system
  • We should be receiving a letter from Dr. Gurney in the near future that details what our next steps should be!

Please add to this thread if you have any more information or just want to say hi!

I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys and having classes together shortly!

August 20th! Oh wow, I must really have gotten my months mixed up. I thought a long time ago I looked up when classes started and I was thinking September 20th. This is going to be challenging. I am hoping to get the one day schedule that has the clinical on Sat. I have to find daycare for a 3 week old and a 3 year old as it is and one less day a week would really help. I work nights so I was hoping to get most of my studying done then. ha.

I'm getting a little nervous about getting this all together in time.

Regarding our Textbooks-

I encourage you to look through this thread- https://allnurses.com/illinois-state-nursing/calling-all-truman-392096-page4.html

It's from 2010, so some of the conversations are outdated and irrelevant, but first year students give some good advice on whether or not one should run to Beck's and purchase all the bundles, which professors are the best, what kind of stethoscope to buy, etceteras.

Hello Kathryn, Katja508 can you please forward the booklist information to my email too :)))

It is [email protected]. Thank you in advance!

Just sent it! Let me know if it doesn't go through!

Thanks, Nathaniel, for the link! That's some good info if only to be amused that Truman didn't have it together then either!

Bethany, Oh no! I would be losing my mind! If I can help in any way let me know. I'm a nanny but don't know many day cares!

I'm hoping that the schedule can work itself out. I do not call for 4:00 in the afternoon and evening class and, likely, not many others will either. I hope the 6:00 class isn't full before we even have a chance!

I am sorry if my question will seems silly, but are those books required for the 2-year nursing program or just for the 1st semester?

The whole 2 years worth of books are on that list

Thank you very much. I expected exactly the same answer. I knew it was not possible to go through them during only 1 semester. Thanks.

Whew! That is good to know! I really wasn't sure! How did you find that out? I emailed Vanesha and got no reply!

to Katja508 and everyone that have some doubts like me. So I've ordered almost all the textbooks we need, but not the online versions, and I figured out that it's impossible to use these many books during one class that we will have this semester. I think that Truman should have let us know which textbooks to get only for this semester. How I mentioned, I placed my order and my textbooks are in the way, so I can't even cancel them now, otherwise I would get only what we need for right now (the first semester). I think there is no need to buy books for 2nd year of program (unless I am wrong) and especially we have to pay for the class soon. It's hard when you have to pay out of your pocket. On the other hand seeing them how they are not quite organized I will be not even surprised that we will need newer editions then. I feel confused sometimes, but I believe I am not the only one here feeling the same way.

And........ I went to order the uniform yesterday. The store is relocated and the new location is 2184 N. Elston, but there was no any note on the window of the original store we were supposed to go. Thanks to one of the students who mentioned in earlier posts about this change.

Stay calm and enjoy the rest of our free summer.

I have many friends that graduated from Truman and some that are in their second year there. You DO NOT need all those books. I'll let you guys know which books/ebooks are mostly needed once I get gather more information. Plus most of these books you can find for lot cheaper online.

hi all,

first off--congrats to us who made it into the program!

secondly, i have two brothers that graduated from ccc nursing programs (one being a graduate from truman). i asked them what books were required for this semester only. after forwarding them the booklist email and a few minutes of reading and grunting, they told me that i only need the 2nd page of books by lippincott for my first day. everything else can afford to wait. you should inquire your professor afterwards.

can anyone confirm this? i have not ordered anything yet. i can't even find where to purchase the fundamentals of nursing with this isbn [color=#83ad03]978-1-4698-0151-3.

i can't even find where to purchase the fundamentals of nursing with this isbn [color=#83ad03]978-1-4698-0151-3.

i purchased all the books from amazon. you can find all the books there ; some are actually cheap like $17.00. some are expensive. i will not buy the e-books until school starts. i hate e-books lol :)

anyone has any information re the evening instructors??? thanks
