Accepted at Both!! What do I do???

Published

I'm soo happy :) I've worked so hard and it has finally paid off!! I just got my admission letters to start at Georgia Perimeter College (GPC) ASN program in Fall and also North Georgia College and State University's (NGCSU) ASN program in Fall. Here are my stats:

Gender: Male

Age: 25

Education: Prior Bachelors in Computer Information Systems (GPA: 3.3)

Pre-requisite GPA: 3.9

TEAS Score: 98th Percentile Nationwide

NET Score: Math - 100%, Verbal - seventy something

I know it's bad to think like this when there are so many people hoping to get into at least one, but I'm bummed. I've heard bad things about GPC's program but haven't heard anything at all about NGCSU's program. I know GPC's program takes like 2 years, and NGCSU's takes like a year plus. Any one have any advice for me? Thanks, I appreciate it!

There MUST be SOMETHING good about GPC

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please, anyone...........People do graduate from GPC, there must be something positive that happens there. OK, so your on your own a lot with little support from faculty, what else? Please someone send positive feedback because I may have to go there due to Ga Baptist being too expensive. I know of some people going to the program doing fine but EVERYTHING else is rumors of horror stories. The question remains, are we going on what we hear? Because I say the same thing all the time....."I've heard bad things." Or do we have comments of real people in the program. HELP!!!

Hey!! When I first got into my program (NGCSU) 2 years ago I heard nothing but bad things......from students who had been turned down etc. My experience has been great and I graduate in 4 weeks!! You should be so proud of yourself for your acceptance!!!! I have some classmates that took pre-reqs at GPC and had a great experience. If you decide to take GPC due to finances you have to just go into it with your all.....Do what you have to do!!.....You would not have gotten into both schools if you did not have the brains to make it. Nursing school is the hardest thing I have ever done.....Just go into it knowing you have to kick butt and you can make it through anything!! I believe any program is what you make of it....So much of it is attitude and if you can relay your passion for nursing to your instructors that may really help you......Be proud of yourself! Good luck in whatever you decide..... :p

Hey Student 79!!! I wanted to also congratulate you and welcome you to our school!!!! NGCSU has been good to me and if you work hard it will be good to you too! I am graduating in 4 weeks! I still vividly remember the day I got my acceptance letter too......Seems like yesterday.....Good luck to you!

I can speak for the quality of the program at GPC because I've been there. I withdrew at the midpoint of my second semester there. I passed the first semester, many did not. The class has gone from about eighty students at the beginning of the first semester to about twenty now, the last week of the second semester. I suspect many will not pass this semester, so the class will be even smaller beginning the third semester.

RUN!! Don't put yourself through it. It is a fail-fail situation. I will say, though, that there are a couple of really great instructors who want with all their might for you to succeed. But just a couple of instructors cannot change the program. It needs a full-out restructuring.

I was an A-student before the program began. I worked full-time and went to school part-time just to make it through the pre-reqs into the program, only to be forced to withdraw to save my GPA. The administrators of the program have closed their ears to the students. They heard our cries, but refused to listen, if you know what I mean.

It is difficult for even the best student to succeed if the instructors refuse to help. GPC boasts a 100% NCLEX pass rate, but what they don't tell you is that a tiny percentage of their students even make it to the NCLEX. That is not impressive.

To make a long story a little shorter, this has been a truly heartbreaking experience. To work so hard for so long and be held back by an impossible program is absolutely heartbreaking. Thankfully, I've been accepted to another ADN program, and will pick up their second quarter beginning in January. During my interview at the new program, the director said "I've heard about GPC, and we're different." It's sad when a program has such a terrible reputation. GPC has lost countless amazing nurses, who must piece their lives back together and find another route. Many just give up, and could not imagine trying again. I am not one of them, but I have friends who are. SAD...

Good luck if that is where you must attend. It is do-able, but only a select few can do it. I thought I could do anything, but this program proved me wrong. Feel free to ask more specific questions if you have them.

check to see if there are any waitlists for the schools...when i applied to my ADN program and got in i was sooo happy...then...they tell me that after i finish my prereqs i go on a list...for atleast 18 months....then id get a letter in the mail telling me id be able to START clinicals...so in other words i wouldve finished all my prereqs this spring quarter and gone on the waiting list for clinicals...prob winter 2006 or possibly early 2007 is when id be able to begin my clinicals...and then its a year of clinicals before im ready to take the NCLEX>..the school did not tell me this before i applied sooo...make sure u check!

Ok, I've read all the horror stories about GPC (I'm taking pre-req's there now) and am really worried. My question is, where else is there to go around here. I just moved to ATL this year and live in midtown. I do not know of any other ADN schools around here. How far away is NGCSU? It looks too far away on the amp, but maybe it is not. I only want an associate degree and cannot find other schools that I could reasonably go to.
