Accepatnce letter to NS with a catch?!

Never heard of it in an acceptance letter.. I am in a ADN (5 semester program) and we are required to pass a math test 90% or greater, at the beginning of each semester.

I know me neither it's kind of odd. I guess they want to make sure we are proficient in math before starting the program :/

doubt it will be complicated, like IV drips and titration of drugs, but I have found serveral good math-for-nurses sites on the Internet. Just practice a little. Be glad they are not accepting everyone who walks thru the door. This school may actually want to turn out good graduates and that means a good reputation that will help you find work

My nursing program does that, but we get 3 tries every semester. Even if you don't make it in 3 tries, some of the professors will sit down with you and Walk you through the problems and pass you. Find a dosage calculations book and practice practice practice! It will eventually become second nature.

You may be right. And I'm also thinking we might be getting tested to see if we can do basic nursing math, if not, then they don't want us in their program I guess.

I transferred into a program and my acceptance letter said something like "congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to the nursing program... Pending a passing grade of 90% or higher on the math entrance exam". :/

In order to be accepted into the sophomore class I had to either take the freshman level math requirement or test out of it on the entrance exam, because I was being offered admission for the next available semester taking the class wasn't an option. I either tested out of it or forfeited my spot. It wasn't "nursing math", it was basic math you learn in high school, but you can't do drip rates and the like if you don't have a handle on basic math skills. I hadn't taken a math class or looked at a math problem in four years and I was panicking.

I printed out everything I could get my hands on from the university website about the types of questions on the exam, got myself a tutor, and did nothing but re-learn math I hadn't done in years. I'm halfway though my junior year now, that tutor saved my but! I highly recommend a tutor if you're years away from your last geometry/algebra/trig class.

For my program we had to take the TEAS, which includes a math section. Each quarter we have to take a med calculation test. The first quarter we have to pass with 90%, second quarter with 95%, and all quarters after that with 100%. First quarter it is taken at the end of the quarter, all other quarters it is taken before clinicals. We did not have to take a separate math exam after we were accepted though.

I already took the teas test. This pre entrance exam is completely aside from the teas or any med math. It says it's a math test we have to pass with 90% or higher to be still eligible to start the nursing program on Jan. I already got accepted I just hope I pass this extra test :)

Yes, my letter said something similar to yours. But I'm going into my first year of nursing. Can they ask me about IV drips or med math?!

We had to take one every semester, but we had to get 100%. First one was more basic type math (and measurement type stuff) and no calculator. Later semesters were more dosage calc and IV drip rates, etc (and we could use a calculator). We got 3 tries each semester. They had a study packet with examples they handed out each semester.
