Accelerated Nursing Applications - September 2015

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs in Ontario, to start in 2015.

A bit about myself:

- I'll be applying to University of Toronto, Humber, Trent University and York University.

- Will be graduating this December with a Life Sciences degree with a GPA of 3.1

- Extensive volunteer and work experience: recreational therapist, athletic trainer work study, volunteering in nursing homes, volunteering in physical therapy and occupational therapy clinics, Durham Hospice, and Lakeridge Health hospital

I know my GPA is far from the greatest but does anyone have any insight if I stand a chance? Are programs in the science field weighed differently than those who have a 3.8 in say..psychology or any other social science?

Any feedback/advice/posts are lovely! Thanks!

I'm not sure about those other schools, but I was told by the departments at U of T and UOttawa that it does not matter what you did your undergrad in, they just look at your marks.

HOWEVER, your extracurricular experience looks great, which will definitely work in your favour (in terms of your supplemental application). Also your marks aren't bad, so don't lose hope!

Good luck!!

Another thing to consider is that different schools calculate your GPA differently. Toronto looks your last year GPA (5.0 full credits), and weights it heavier than your overall GPA. Trent considers your last 2 years (10.0 full credits). I'm not sure about the other schools, but it will help you out if you did better/improved in your last year or two!

Thank you so much both of your for your insight! I'm REALLY hoping the supplementary application will help with my overall application against my GPA.

The other two posters are right - you can really make things work in your favour if you apply to schools that require a supplementary application or look at more/less transfer credits.

I'm still waiting to head back for January entry, but will probably be applying to other universities for September if that doesn't work out!

I'm contemplating my future and thought I would throw this in here and see what others thought!

I've a BSc(hons) in Genetics from the UK 2nd class degree In 2nd year I covered physiology and anatomy in depth no sociology though- WES (horrible independent company used solely by McMaster) gives me a 2.8GPA, university of Manitoba website gives me well over 3.0 .

A post graduate in Information Technology - not relevant as a subject but shows I can do high level self learning.

Moved to Canada 4 years ago did freelance IT work till industry got too competitive. Went to Mohawk college and graduated top of my class as an RPN - pre grad placement in an ER, a few awards and now currently working as an bedside RPN.

So the question, do I attempt to get into the 2 year accelerated course or just do the 3 year bridging?

Hi everyone,

I am applying to U of T and UWO. I am planning on taking U of T's Continuing Studies 2159 Physiology to fulfill that prereq but I am wondering if anyone knows whether this will fulfill UWO's requirement?

Also is UWO's application solely OUAC? I can't find anything about reference letters or where to send transcripts. Any info about this?

Thanks!

NVM - i found the info I needed

Hi everyone, when do you guys think its best to start application process?

Hi!

I applied last year and only made it on the waitlist for UoT. I'm applying to Western, UoT, York, and Mac. My cGPA isn't that great so I'm really hoping my supplementary applications/extra curriculars will help me out. My last two years are much better so hoping for Western or Toronto.

Good luck to everyone! :)

Hi!

I am finishing up my second year at York in Kine. I have applied to York internal and U of T!

When do you think we should hear back?

Specializes in MAP Assistant - Bridgepoint.

Congrats to all of you getting in!

I applied to 8 different programs haha because last year i got rejected, and i really want to get in. I applied to Trent, Ryerson, George Brown, Centennial, Georgian, Seneca, Loyalist, Mohawk!

TRENT is my top choice by far!

My CGPA is 2.43

My GPA for my last 10 courses is 3.05.

& my high school average is 85%

I know my chances are slim, but did anyone have success with a gpa around 3.05! Thanks and good luck to all of you :)
