Accelerated BSN or 2nd degree

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi everyone! I'm considering both accelerated (12 months) BSN programs as well as 2nd degree bachelors (usually 2 years). Just wondering if anyone has and advice or information on which is better. Obviously the 12 month option is quicker but quicker isn't always better.

Thanks for your input!!

I did a 1 year program. It was very, very challenging. I'm almost done and the thought of being only half done at this point seems crazy to me- BUT I might not be so completely ready to be done with school if things were at a slower pace. At this stage in my life I didn't want to devote another 2 years, but I took forever on my first degree and then needed another year and a half to do prerequisites.

I think a lot depends on what is going on in your life, your learning style, and which works better for you (a year without working, or two years possibly being able to work part time?).

I was accepted to both an accelerated and 2nd degree program for this fall. I chose the accelerated one. I'm pretty sure I made the right choice (but I really don't know:eek:). At the orientation they kind of scared me.

I picked the second degree program over the accelerated program, because of personal reasons. Since this is a totally new field to me (and my first degree has nothing to do with science/math), I wanted the extra time, cushion and occasional school breaks.

However, at times, I wished I'd picked the accelerated 12-month program, especially for financial reasons!

I think it's up to your comfort level, how you learn and if you can pace yourself.

The ABSN program I am in is really not that much more accelerated than its generic counterpart. The only difference is that we don't take the summer off and therefore graduate a semester ahead. Some ABSN programs are very condensed, I'm not sure if I would want to be that rushed. It's really a personal choice when you compare the two options in your area.

Well I am graduating with my BA in May. I am applying to ABSN programs. I took a long timne to f9nish my initial degree due to illness and I do not feel like spending 2 years for a BSN. I know for a fact that I plan in becoming a PNP or an NNP and with that in mind I want to finish school quicker. Hence I can enter the job field earlier. Plus it is more economic for me to pay for a 15 month program once than to pay for a 2 yr program.

It depends on what is best for you. I know that an ABSN is great for me. However, if you think you need more time then enter a 2 yr 2nd degree program.
