Accelerated ASN/ADN programs

Published

Does anyone know of any 8-10 month RN programs around the country, if so, please let me knokw where. I already have a BS in an unrelated field, so I want to get in, get out and make money again FAST!

i've never heard of an accel ADN in 8-10 mos. the shortest i've ever even heard rumors of was 16-18 mos. & i don't know how much truth there was to the rumors. some accel BSN programs are 16-18 mos. maybe you want to look into those kinds of programs since you already have a BA?

There are almost 200 Accelerated BSN program listed on aanc's website and they are 11 to 24 onths long, and I only know of one acclerated ADN, but I know there have to be more. Maybe they can be completed in 2 months, but any info on this is helpful.

Sorry, but there are no accelerated ADN programs that are recognized in the US. There are accelerated BSN programs, but that is it.

There are a certain number of hours that have to be completed and if you try to cut them from the ADN, it is not going to work. The ADN programs are actually three years if you add in the time to get the pre-requisites.

There are no programs of the length that you are looking for, that amount of time would only give you the LPN.

Have you finised all of your prereqs? That takes multiple semesters, if your bachelor's was in an unrelated field. Mine was, and I'm in my 4th semester of prereqs - although it's only part time - and applying to a 15 mo. accelerated BSN program at USF that starts in May.

Specializes in Psychiatric, Spinal Cord Injury.

I have heard of one program. It is Our Lady of the Lake in New Orleans. It is a 10 month ASN for second degree students. There are several posts in the Louisiana forum about the program. I think you have to sign a two year contact to work at Tulane Hospital. I hope this helps.

Specializes in Maternity, quality.

An old friend of mine is in an accelerated ADN program in Miami, FL, but I don't know what school or what the exact duration is.

Drexel's program is 11 months (Sept-August).

I'll be starting an accelerated BSN program in Charleston, SC that is 16 months.

I just absolutely love this site...there is so much info. I had no idea there were accelerated Associates degree in nursing programs. The school in FL is Miami Dade College. But you must have a bachelors degree to get into this program and the one in Louisiana

If you have a BS already, even if in another field, why would you want an Associates degree? You can get another Bachelors in nursing, and there are several Accelerated BSN programs available. I just completed one, and it was 12 months. Most are about 15-18 mos though, and now that I've done mine, I really think I would've preferred longer, since there's ALOT of material to cover in such short time. They don't cut courses, it's just double the work, so it's equivalent to 2 yrs work in one.

I am glad that I got a BSN instead of ADN though, since it wouldn't make sense not to take advantage of transferring all my BS credits in general education and science that were accepted into the nursing BSN program, so now I have a second Bachelor's degree.

Besides, I have heard that many hospitals are trying to hire more BSNs and they do get compenstated a bit more.

If you think you can learn nursing (a whole new field) in 8-10 mos, they you can just go for a little longer and take the Accelerated BSN program. I found the 12 mos program very fast and stressful since it's a whole new field for me and different way of thinking for taking tests.

It's not easy, and I also wish I had more clinical time. We had plenty, but I still think it's not enough since with nursing, the more time with hands on, the better. I don't know how 8 mos can be enough, even for ADN. It's still an RN degree and you will need to know alot of clinical skills.

Plus, most of these programs require pre reqs so in the end it can take longer. If you can transfer your credits into an Accel BSN and get a higher degree, it doesn't make sense to get an ADN.

Sorry but the moderator for this site is incorrect. There is indeed a 10 month non-nursing bachelor's to ASN program at Our Lady of the Lakes College. The school is headquartered in Baton Rouge but has a New Orleans campus. http://www.ololcollege.edu/Accelerated_Nursing.html

Another contributor correctly indicated that you'll need to get a substantial number of prerequisite courses out of the way first (and repeat any hard science courses that are considered too old). I'm in the process of doing that right now. It's going to take me three semesters to get my prerequisites out of the way (Summer, Fall, and Spring) but I'll be carrying a fairly heavy load to do it that quickly.

They are in the process of expanding this program to include two other hospitals in the New Orleans area and that information isn't on the Website. I encourage anyone who is interested in this program to give the school a call. I have found them to be extremely helpful and consciencous about getting back to me with answers to my questions.
