Accelerated ADN?

My CC is starting an accelerated ADN program this fall in which it will only take 16 months to complete the degree requirements rather than the 21 months that it takes for the regular program. The only additional requirement for admission to the program is that you have an associates degree in another field. This is really easy to accomplish with all of the pre-requisites that they require before admittance to their Nursing program (I will have an Associate of Arts next spring). Since the program only knocks five months off of the program, I am wondering if it will be much more intense, or if it will just be a matter of skipping the traditional summer break? If anyone had any experience with an Accelerated ADN I would appreciate ANY input!

Thanks,

Stacy

I am in an accelerated ADN program and the difference is that we went to school during the summer. It is no more intense than the traditional program.

I'm also in an accelerated adn program. The major difference here is we graduate 1 year earlier than the part-timers(thats what they are called). For the last 2 semesters of nursing school we are doing 4 semesters worth of work.

I am curious as to where are you attending your accelerated ADN program?

I am in Southern California San Pedro Area and I would like to what are the good schools and if the accelerated programs are good.

Thanks so much for any info in California.

With ours you basically just skip the summer break. You get one week between 2nd and 3rd and between 3rd and forth. The summer session is a few weeks shorter so probably a little bit more hectic.

I am up here in northern california. I go to Sierra College. I just found out that our school has the highest pass rate for NCLEX in the whole state!! Yippee!! Out of 99 nursing schools listed on the California Board of Nursing website our school is 1 of only 3 schools whose graduates have a 100% PASS rate!!http://www.rn.ca.gov/passrates/passrates.htm. You can check out this website, it has information on the nursing schools in california http://www.rn.ca.gov/nursing/nursing.htm GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

Locally, the class continues through the summer without a break.

What this really means is that the Level II is *super* busy, because the school semester is shorter, and you have to cram everything in a shorter span of time.

The 'slightly slower' track gets the summer off. Most of us worked as techs/whatever, so used the time to gain some exposure and work experience before 'hitting the books' again.

Lots of graduates do it, however; it seems to take more of a 'social' toll than anything else - i.e. "0" life outside of school from start to finish.

Hi there,

Thanks for the info. I have been to that site so many times. I am really weighing my options on where I want to go.

I am in Southern California now. I grew up in the Bay Area. Sometimes I wish I was back there but I am doing just fine here.

I will start my Pre-reqs soon getting ready for my nursing courses next Spring or Fall.

Take Care and God Bless
