Accelerated ADN program?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have been browsing through all the topics and I see a lot of students doing the traditional way, going to school for 4 years to get a BSN and take the boards to be an RN! That's amazing, and Kudos! However, is there anyone who plans on doing an accelerate ADN? 1 yr core nursing program to get their Associates and then take the NCLEX? If so, when do you start? I'm so excited for June to get here!

Why choose an expensive program that's just shy of two years over a program that is much cheaper, may be more respected, and is just a little longer, at two years?

I don't mean to offend, I just hate to see people pay more money than they should because I've made that mistake myself. If you're absolutely sure it's worth it, then good for you and congrats on getting into the program and best of luck in the future.

Also be cautious in that some schools brag that they are accredited in one way, but they may not be accredited with one thing or another, if that makes sense. That I'm not so sure how it works but there are posts about it around.

No worries, I'm not offended! Well, i'm 25, 3 kids and I need something faster than 3-4 years worth. It works out for my family. Now, if I was single, and had the time, I would have, but I have to work with what I got! I don't mind the loan debt... I am paying it now and its fine. Plus, If I work at this public hospital in my area, they pay 60% of my school in 2 years, and another 25% if I stay another year. I have verified that it's accredited... thanks for the congrats!

I'm at Miami Dade College. The instruction is really good but so far my clinicals have been kind of boring. Do you know where your clinicals will be? Good luck!

I looked up that school...I'm very curious as to why they won't post the average time it takes graduates to actually complete the program, or the job placement percentages! Scary. They will post how much it costs though, $38,000 is a ton for a program that isn't going to allow you to work in the end of it! It's not nationally accredited either...just "approved by the Florida Board of nursing" which is great- until you try to take your license elsewhere, or get your BSN. I'm sorry but I wouldn't trust that school with my money. I hope it works out for you!!

If you are attending the school you posted here it is only accredited by your state. It is NOT a nationally NURSING accredited school.

Southeastern College’s Nursing Programs at the Greenacres Main Campus, Miami Lakes Area Branch Campus, St. Petersburg Branch Campus, and New Port Richey Branch Campus have been approved by the Florida Board of Nursing, 4052 Bald Cypress Way, BIN C02, Tallahassee, Florida, 32399, 850-245-4125.
They are accredited by Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges and approved by the Florida BON. TO be nursing accredited nationally it would have to be Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing

Look at these two threads. If you stay in Florida you are ok. But it will limit your your opitions somewhat for example you will not be able to work at the VA.

There is no longer a nursing shortage right now...and many facilities are only hiring BSN new grads.

And I am just going to add this, if it not regionally accredited, your credits will not transfer and they will mean nothing. Say you get a job at a hospital with your ADN and they require you to get your BSN, you will have to start all over because none of the hard work that you do will count for anything. Just because a school is approved by the BON does not mean they are accredited. Please look into this more carefully before signing your life away.

Wait, so If I get my ADN and want to get my BSN I can't?? I'm so confused right now! What If I plan on staying in Miami and want to get my BSN in Florida?? Can I? OMG I am literally freaking out right now! What about the pre-reqs I've taken are they transferrable??

Yes. If they are not regionally accredited, they will not transfer. It pretty much means nothing. I have a friend going for her LPN right now at a for profit school. She is paying double for her LPN what I will pay for my RN. If she chooses to be a RN later on she will basically be starting from scratch because nothing she is taking at this school will transfer to a school to get her RN. The RN program at this school is a mess and they lost accreditation and are having a hard time finding places to do clinicals. They are hanging on to LPN accreditation by a thread. The school I go to is both regionally and nationally accredited and all of my credits will transfer to any school for my BSN when i go for that. Please just investigate. Many of these schools have a great song and dance to get people in, but in essence their degrees mean very little.

Thank you! Well, I looked into it and spoke to Miami Dade College and they accept my schools credit so I can get my BSN there (Phew).. And their sister school Keiser University is fully accredited, accepts my credits too. So it works out. Thank you for everyones input. It really opened my eyes!!

Where are your clinicals done at? Idk where mine will be... But I know that different areas of studying you should be able to go to other hospitals/clinics so hopefully it won't be boring for too long! Good luck to you too!
